Epson scanner will not work with latest windows 10 update

Me too (tm). I have this problem after an 1803 update. Our epson v500 no longer works. I ran the utility mentioned above and will see if it fixes the problem. Posting here so i can get updates.

Obviously i can roll back to 17xx and fix this but since it will most likely auto update again, it seems pointless. god **** microsoft. If you are going to have a rapid release type cycle, then you should be rapidly fixing all the problems that this model causes too! This thread is from may. From MAY you have known about this problem and done nothing!!!

He could try the 4.0.2.0 Epson Scan program but since it's broken for more recent scanners that won't help.  On the other hand my ancient Epson Perfection 4990 runs perfectly fine in Administrator mode using Epson Scan ver. 3.04A on a Windows 10, ver. 1803 PC.

I have read it, but I wasn't replying to the entire thread.  I obviously replied to an individual.

Getting to end-September and still waiting for Microsoft and/or Epson to do something about this infuriating problem.

Epson's response today was: "Okay, I am having a feeling something to do with the windows update has knocked some things around a little. We have in the past advised to contact windows to see if they can see what is stopping the product from operating correctly as the drivers and patch should resolve the issue."

Using Photoshop Elements or Foxit doesn't seem to work, not with V100 scanner.

Nor does Administrator mode. Nor does Windows 8 compatibility mode.

Nor does reinstalling the drivers.

Just one positive thing though: scanner and Epson software do usually work OK in B/W mode, though never in grayscale or color.

You have an XP-era scanner and have tried the available fixes. The latest driver was released five years before Windows 10.  With the Windows semi-annual feature updates, it was just a matter of time before one of them was no longer compatible with the old driver.  This is not a Microsoft problem--it's the responsibility of hardware manufacturers to maintain compatibility.   You might want to look into VueScan, which is not free, but it has resurrected many scanners that were abandonded by their manufacturers. 

Before throwing rocks read the entire string.  Lots of us have relatively new scanners with post-Windows 10 software including the most recent version of Epson Scan 4.0.2.0 which came out August 10, 2015.  The Epson Printer works fine but the Epson Scan locks up and has since Windows 10 update 1803 in April 2018.  Whatever the problem is got CREATED by the Windows 10 1803 update and I don't much care for Microsoft/Epson finger pointing; just fix it - 5 months of no action is at least 3 months too long.  I'm lucky as running as Administrator works for me.  Bottom line is the problem is NOT with the printer utility rather it's with with the Epson Scanner 4.0.2.0 utility and it impacts ALL Epson scanners regardless of age that use that utility.  I'm ok for now but would not recommend anyone purchase and Epson scanner until the problem is fixed.  Epson has acknowledged the problem and is "supposed" to be working on a fix with Micorsoft although why that fix has not been completed and published escapes me.
