My epson perfection v700 scanner (that allows me to scan photos, negatives, documents, etc.) and that I paid over $800 for) stopped working with teh latest update two days ago. I've downloaded a new driver and other software from Epson and it doesn't work. Can I uninstall this update? I like my scanner a whole lot more than I like Windows.

    Chris: Thanks

I'm running a Epson Perfection V500 Photo. It won't launch. Running Win 10 version 1809. I'm not particularly astute in computer and hesitate to do any hack. Especially since paid professionals couldn't get it to work. And Microsoft's only solution was to have Epson get me a new scanner.

I agree, Its sad that many are continuing to have problems with their scanners after such a long time. Many need them for their work and livlihood. It would be in Epson's best interest to cooperate with Microsoft* and fix the problem asap or they will stand to lose customers!

In my case, I found the "run as administrator"  fix on a forum and it worked for me. In the meantime, I hope that by sharing various suggestions we can help others to find a solution.

    Kind regards

    Chris

    * I am curious to see if the latest Win 10 update 1809 has helped to solve the problem for some users.

What scanner and driver version sre you using? Can you get Epson scan to launch or does it crash after scanning? Does the computer recognise the scanner in control panrl? Are you running Win 10 version 1809?

You could try the registry hack mentioned above to see if that helps.

    Kind Regards

    Chris

    Chris,

I know how to do registry hacks but don't think this applies to most other users of scanners and printers. Anyway, the hack might be reversed by the next forced update, and it will not restore the photocopy direct-to-printer software that was removed by one of the WIndows updates.

This has been going on for far too long; there seems to be something technical and/or commercial between MS and Epson (and other suppliers of peripherals) that is seriously wrong. Those huge companies should be able to adapt driver software within days or weeks. If, as frustrated customers might imagine,  an underlying aim of the update epidemic is to generate technical difficulties in order get them to scrap hardware that's in perfect working order, the authorities ought to be looking into it.
