Bluetooth volume broken after Windows 10 1803 update

I have a Samsung DA-E670 bluetooth(BT) speaker that I use as my main speakers connected via BT. After the Windows 10 version 1803 update recently, I can no longer adjust the volume of these speakers from the master mixer in the taskbar.

The slider moves but the volume doesn't change unless it's slid to the minimum then it mutes.

The same issue happens on my laptop after this 1803 update.

However, on my new Sennheiser headphones the behaviour has changed differently. Adjusting the volume on the headphones built-in volume control, changes the Windows main mixer volume. I can learn to adjust to this change but I would need to be able to control the volume of my Samsung speakers via Windows like before.

My research points to something about a mismatch of Bluetooth profiles. Has anyone had this issue and if so, are there any work arounds or fixes?

Also, I have been in touch with Microsoft support chat a bunch of times (5 or 6 times) and they have tried everything from;

BT troubleshooter

Re-installing drivers

Updating drivers

Installing bad drivers, breaking the BT

some weird registry and other actions I don't know the details about

Hello guys,

I also have a problem with my Edifier R2730DB, however I solved the problem by changing a value from 0 to 1 in the registry.

Follow the steps from this post:

"You should try this fix It worked to me:

  1. Open Windows Registry (regedit.exe).
  2. Jump to  Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT
  3. Create  REG_DWORD  DisableAbsoluteVolume and set it's value to  1.

Important: You need to restart your PC for changes to take affect.

Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help, this will help others who are looking for solutions to the same or similar Problem." (Check last post of the page).

Hope this solves the problem for you too. Looking forward to actually get a fix from Microsoft with next updates ...

Thanks for the update and apologies for the delay in getting back to your thread, Dildeep. During this time, have you already resolved the issue with Bluetooth? There was an update on Windows last June 05 which may help with your issue. I highly suggest that you make sure that you're on the latest build. Here's an article that can help you update. Let's also try your theory by making sure that Bluetooth profiles are matched. Make sure that you're Bluetooth version is 5.0 or higher and check if your device is one of the supported profiles in Windows 10 in this article. Also try the Bluetooth troubleshooter as it can automatically resolve issues such as yours. Click How can I try to automatically fix common Bluetooth problems? on this article for further instructions on how to use the troubleshooter. You're also welcome to try the other troubleshooting steps provided on the same article if you ever wish to troubleshoot further.

Update me if there are improvements on your issue.

    Hey moderators

Me and many others got the same problem. There is a bigger and older community thread the following link - there is no Microsoft agent helping out though. Would be helpful if this issue was adressed officially by Microsoft now, since this is present for over a month without any proper fix:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_10-hardware/windows-10-version-1803-april-2018-update-broke/5be7a2a0-2caa-47f0-8054-fba5d7b4f282

This problems persists since day 1 of 1803 update and is very likely caused by the newly implemented "sound settings" inside of the settings app (Go to settings > system > sound > on bottom "more sound settings". What you can see here is this:

On the top, there is a master volume slider (this is the broken one). Below you can see the volume slider for each program capable of outputting sound.

Edit: This has nothing to do with faulty drivers or any type of hardware specific problems like the other community thread tried to solve this. This is just a problem coming with 1803 (I tried downgrading to 1709 and there it works perfectly. However since a clean installed 1803 there is no downgrade option available anymore). That being said, troubleshooter fixes do not and will not work either, because everything works. Except that the volume slider does not change volume. The Windows troubleshooter does not detect this problem.

    Edit 2:

    Tested on Windows 10 1803

    Build 17134.81

With every update available (KB100403 included)

    problem persists

    Hi Devlin

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have installed the new update but the problem persists.

I have using a generic (non-branded) USB dongle BT device on my Desktop so finding the manufacturer would be difficult. However, I have tried updating all the BT related drivers from device manager and Microsoft Support have tried some obscure drivers that broke it as well.

I have the latest drivers for my Asus laptop BT drivers and the rest.

My Desktop PC details are as follows:

    Edition: Windows 10 Pro

    Version: 1803

    Installed on: 17/05/2018

    OS build: 17134.81

On a side note, the same behaviour occurred last year with my android tablet connect to the Samsung speakers via BT after a major update. My research at the time pointed to something about BT profiles being changed and mismatching with some BT Audio devices.

I would like to revert to the behaviour prior to the update even if that means removing the 1803 update.

    Hi Dildeep,

Thank you for listing the troubleshooting steps you've performed with Microsoft Support. A driver compatibility issue with Windows 10 version 1803 is a possible cause of your concern. That being said, can you tell me the current OS Build of your Windows 10 system? You can find this information by clicking the Start button, type About your PC, press Enter, and then scroll down to Windows specifications. A new build was just released yesterday, KB4100403 (OS Build 17134.81). If you don't have it yet, I recommend updating your device. You can manually download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog. You can refer to this page for more information about your System type.

If you haven't tried yet, I suggest downloading the latest Bluetooth driver from the computer manufacturer's support website. This ensures that the Bluetooth driver installed is specifically designed for your device and is compatible with the latest version of Windows 10. Andre Da Costa created a forum article with steps on how to manually install drivers in Windows 10.

I'll be waiting for your reply.
