Bluetooth volume broken after Windows 10 1803 update

I have a Samsung DA-E670 bluetooth(BT) speaker that I use as my main speakers connected via BT. After the Windows 10 version 1803 update recently, I can no longer adjust the volume of these speakers from the master mixer in the taskbar.

The slider moves but the volume doesn't change unless it's slid to the minimum then it mutes.

The same issue happens on my laptop after this 1803 update.

However, on my new Sennheiser headphones the behaviour has changed differently. Adjusting the volume on the headphones built-in volume control, changes the Windows main mixer volume. I can learn to adjust to this change but I would need to be able to control the volume of my Samsung speakers via Windows like before.

My research points to something about a mismatch of Bluetooth profiles. Has anyone had this issue and if so, are there any work arounds or fixes?

Also, I have been in touch with Microsoft support chat a bunch of times (5 or 6 times) and they have tried everything from;

BT troubleshooter

Re-installing drivers

Updating drivers

Installing bad drivers, breaking the BT

some weird registry and other actions I don't know the details about

Hello guys, 

I also have a problem with my Edifier R2730DB, however I solved the problem by changing a value from 0 to 1 in the registry. 

Follow the steps from this post:

"You should try this fix It worked to me:

  1. Open Windows Registry (regedit.exe).
  2. Jump to  Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT
  3. Create  REG_DWORD  DisableAbsoluteVolume and set it's value to  1.

Important: You need to restart your PC for changes to take affect.

    More thanks to the creator of Bluetooth Tweaker. It is now February 2019, and AGAIN with an automatic windows update (not even a new version, just a regular one) I am unable to use volume control and have to get Tweaker again to fix this. It is enough to make we want to go Mac forever. I've been accustomed to having a functioning volume control in Windows since at least 1995.

    Ever since the 'FORCED UPGRADE' to Windows 10 Spring Update 1803 my Bluetooth audio does not work. I can pair to a Bluetooth device but cannot connect.  Reverting back to the previous build is broken too, imagine that...  I do not want to refresh Windows 10 as I will lose all my installed apps and settings in the process. it's been over a month since this build was pushed and Patch Tuesday has come and gone with no fix released. I see threads like this all over the net about this Bluetooth Audio issues and MS giving lame non-working suggestions how to fix what they broke!

    Is Microsoft really looking into this issue or are working on adding more telemetry into Windows 10 to spy on its users! This has become the worst OS since Windows Vista!

    STOP WITH THESE FORCED BUILD UPDATES FFS! Let us decide if we want them or not.

    Hi there Peter,

    Thanks for the update. I've seen that the thread has been on-going for a while now and there are still issues happening on different devices. To help further isolate this, can you provide me the following information for further investigation?

    • What is the name of your Bluetooth adapter and it's driver version? You can get this information by right-clicking Start, choose Device Manager, look for and right-click the Bluetooth device and select Properties.
    • What is the make and model of your device?

    I've also seen that you're one update behind the latest update. Please make sure that you're on the latest build. To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.

    • I use a bluetooth USB stick with Plug'n'Play (since the mainboard itself doesnt provide BT).

    It uses Microsoft Bluetooth drivers - Windows automatically downloaded and installed them right after plugin. Doesnt look like the driver has a specific name. It is provided by Microsoft, version 10.0.17134.1, signature by Microsoft Windows.

    • I dont know what exactly you mean by "your device", so here are all specs of my build (self made PC)
    • Mainboard Biostar x370GTN
    • AMD Ryzen 5 1600
    • MSI 1060 6GB
    • 8GB 2400 RAM
    • 2x 250GB Samsung SSD EVO 850
    • If you want to know the connected bluetooth speaker, the name is Creative Sound BlasterX Katana
    • Windows Update says that I am up to date.
    • I manually checked every device's driver for updates - some of which updated, but didn't cure the problem.

    It is important to notice this: On 1709 everything still works just fine - for everyone in the thread I linked - including me. As soon as 1803 is installed, the problem occurs. It is unlikely that this is caused by a faulty or old driver, since many people with different hardware report the same issue. It is more likely that 1803 is faulty itself or has a faulty feature implemented (my suspect is the integration of the sound settings into the settings app).

    Thanks for the update and apologies for the delay in getting back to your thread, Dildeep. During this time, have you already resolved the issue with Bluetooth? There was an update on Windows last June 05 which may help with your issue. I highly suggest that you make sure that you're on the latest build. Here's an article that can help you update. Let's also try your theory by making sure that Bluetooth profiles are matched. Make sure that you're Bluetooth version is 5.0 or higher and check if your device is one of the supported profiles in Windows 10 in this article. Also try the Bluetooth troubleshooter as it can automatically resolve issues such as yours. Click How can I try to automatically fix common Bluetooth problems? on this article for further instructions on how to use the troubleshooter. You're also welcome to try the other troubleshooting steps provided on the same article if you ever wish to troubleshoot further.
