"Installed" fonts not showing up in Windows Fonts folder

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, none of the previous answers solves my problem.

I try to install fonts. According to Windows that also works but I cannot see the installed fonts in the Windows Fonts folder and neither do they show up in Illustrator. 

When I copy a font file into the Windows Fonts folder it says "The "xxxxxx" font is already installed. Do you want to replace it?" - I click yes, but still - the font does not show.

It's not a problem of the font file as it was working previously. Same happens to hundreds of other fonts. Says they are installed but they don't show and they are not selectable in other applications.

    This is a bit later in 2019 (July).

    What finally worked for me installing Type 1 fonts from my Windows 7 on my new Windows 10 machine, was:

    1. Creating a new Fonts folder into which I copied my old Type 1 fonts.
    2. Go one by one right-clicking the *.PFM files and selecting "Install for all users" (not just "Install").

    ! saw a post saying this issue was related to how Word depends on the printer driver to know how to render fonts.  Made no sense to me, but what do I know.  So, I uninstalled the printer and driver in device manager, rebooted, printer and driver automatically reinstalled and all fonts now work perfectly in MS Word.  Thanks Microsoft for your wonky software....

    Try right clicking on the font and selecting the "install for all users" option, I work on an office computer where I am not the only user, so this was for some reason my issue, as I was having the exact same issue as you, maybe this is the solution? 

    This solution worked for me after pounding my head against the wall with some of the aforementioned solutions. Just select the font(s) to be installed and right click. BTW, this worked for older postscript type 1 fonts.

    Hi, I think I had a similar problem and found a way around it.

    For me, it seems to happen when one family has several variations in several files, and you try to install each file separately. The first file install works; every other one gives a dialog saying "already installed". If you say "Replace", it still isn't installed.

    What worked for me (as Administrator):

    1. Go to folder Windows\Fonts and look for the family name. Delete any items in the font family which are already there.
    2. Open another folder with the font files you want to install. Select all of them. (For me, 18 Lato*.ttf files.)
    3. Hold control key, click and drag all the files into the Windows\Fonts folder to copy them all at once.
    4. (You MAY get the "already installed" dialog. If so, select "Replace" and check "Do this for all remaining items".)

    If you then look in Windows\Fonts, you should see the family name as a single "stack" icon. Double-click that icon and you should see a bunch of individual icons for each variation.

    NOTE: Fonts are sometimes grouped strangely.

    All the "Lato" fonts show up in a single "Lato" group, except for "Lato Hairline Light" and "Lato Hairline Light Italic" which show up in a "Lato Hairline" group. It must have something to do with how many words are in the name.
