"Installed" fonts not showing up in Windows Fonts folder

I've been having the same problem as everyone, it's definitely a windows 10 problem because it's been plaguing both my personal laptop and my company's work stations.

I've noticed one interesting thing, when you check the font settings using Window 10's Settings cog, and look at one of the font family with the problem, in my case AkzidenzGrotesk, it shows all the font types as Regular.  I'm wondering if this is what's confounding Photoshop and Illustrator, because if you look in the Fonts folder in Windows explorer, it seems to be fine:

I tried to reinstall one of the font types with Photoshop open, and you can see it makes it twitch, but it looks related to this problem:

i'm new to this thread, so bear with me. (And yes, I did read the entire thread before responding :)

I've been having issues with fonts not displaying properly in Windows 10 (Word 2019) after getting a new computer last week. Almost every website that I found gave the same instructions on how to install new (third-party) fonts, but they universally failed to provide any troubleshooting advice for after the installation.  Installing the fonts (.ttf or.otf files) is not the problem. Displaying the fonts after they've been installed is the issue (at least in my case.... seems that other people are having this problem, too). In Windows 7, this was never a concern. In Windows 10, it's a HUGE concern!  Windows lets me download and install fonts with no problem. The new fonts show up perfectly in the font library as well as in the drop-down list in Word. However, when I attempt to apply the new fonts to text in a Word document, they default back to a generic font (Calibri, maybe?)  The upshot is that all of the documents that I created with exciting fonts on my old computer are now entirely messed up because of the default font, even when I re-install the same fun fonts.  So here is the (temporary??) solution that I've come up with:  I downloaded the WPS Writer app from the App Store. As far as I can tell (and that's not very far ! ;-), this appears to be a Word "knock-off". It looks almost the same when you open a document with it.  Long story short, WPS Writer showed my newly-installed fonts in the drop-down list, and when I attempted to use one of these new fonts.... --wait for it-- …  IT WORKED !  Yay.  And when I opened some of my old documents using WPS Writer, it correctly displayed the fonts that I wanted. So to sum up: (1) Spend tons of money buying the Office suite, (2) get super-frustrated when said suite fails to perform the way an older version did, (3) install a FREE app to get the job done.  Wow. Microsoft, are you listening??

Anyway, I think I've solved my problem. I hope this helps others out there.  Thanks for reading.

Whatever Microsoft did to the account settings to try and force people into setting up remote instead of local accounts is what caused the font issues. I had some luck setting up a local only Admin account and installing fonts through it but it's still sketchy.

As a designer this is a huge issue and it's already cost me 8 hours trying to fix it. Microsoft you cost me $1,600. How many tens of thousands of dollars in lost productivity have you cost others.

Perhaps it is listed under another name?  Look under "London" in your list instead of "Chalet".
