"Installed" fonts not showing up in Windows Fonts folder

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, none of the previous answers solves my problem.

I try to install fonts. According to Windows that also works but I cannot see the installed fonts in the Windows Fonts folder and neither do they show up in Illustrator. 

When I copy a font file into the Windows Fonts folder it says "The "xxxxxx" font is already installed. Do you want to replace it?" - I click yes, but still - the font does not show.

It's not a problem of the font file as it was working previously. Same happens to hundreds of other fonts. Says they are installed but they don't show and they are not selectable in other applications.

    I had the same problem, (in Windows 7)  and none of the suggestions I found here were helpful.

    Eventually I decided to close everything and reboot the computer. 

    Voila the font I had been trying to install was there and working properly.

    Hope this will help someone else who finds this thread.

    Hi,

    I ran into the same issue and solved it kind of accidentally while experienting. I did not bother to test it out properly, but here is what I did:

    1. My font file to be installed "Franklin Gothic Heavy" was located on the desktop. Two other fonts of the same family had been installed already by the time in Fonts. Whenever I tried to install Heavy, it produced the same error you encountered.
    2. So I had the Franklin Gothic font family subfolder opened in one window, and drag and dropped the other two members of the family to the desktop, creating two copies.
    3. I renamed Franklin Gothic Heavy in accordance with the naming scheme of the two older fonts (Franklin Gothic Medium - framd, Franklin Gothic Medium Italic - framdit), thus to: frahy. (I believe this step was not neccesarily though, but I leave it here just in case.)
    4. I drag and dropped the two originally installed fonts from the desktop back into its font family subfolder (curiously, windows did not prompt me about them already having been installed.)
    5. Then I drag and dropped Heavy as well. Now I cannot remember if it showed up at this time in the font family's subfolder or it took another attempt of drag and dropping one of the older files from the desktop, but it appeared within a few seconds and showed in applications as well.

    I'm not sure if someone finally figured out how to correct this issue and if you're still trying to figure this out - But when running Windows 10 you must add a few extra steps to install fonts (for all users) in order to use those fonts in certain programs. Steps are as follows:

    • Download Font 
    • Open Downloaded Font Folder 
    • Use the Extract Option
    • Select Extract Location 
    • Open Extracted Font Folder 
    • RIGHT Click On Font File 
    • Click Install For All Users

    Fonts will now be available across all programs. 

    STEP ONE - Download Font File and Open Downloads Folder To Access The File 

    Step Two  - Open Font Folder And Select Extract All 

    Step Three - Choose Extraction Location 

    Step Four - Find & Open New Extracted Font Folder 

    Step Five - Select & Right Click On True Type Font File (Or Open Type Font) And Select "Install For All Users" 

    Fonts should now be installed across all programs - make sure to close out the program (if open during font installation) and restart the program. Search for freshly installed fonts to make sure they are available and installed correctly.

    It's almost 2020, and no real solution. Pathetic for MS. It so frustrated. That is why OS is the best. but I'm stuck with stupid MS and it so frustrating that at times it makes want ro ****. If i do that it's on Microsoft/Windows 10.

    I found ghost fonts in this folder, maybe it can helf anyone 

    C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME_HERE\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts
