Why does my Onedrive.exe file disappear from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder?

For some reason, my onedrive.exe program gets deleted after a day from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder.

I have uninstalled OneDrive and then reinstalled it.  The program works for a day, but then the following day I notice that the OneDrive icon is not in my taskbar (i.e. OneDrive stopped running) and then when I go to launch the program, it says it can't fine OneDrive.  I navigate to the folder (noted above) and the OneDrive.exe file is no longer there.

This is really strange.

Can someone help?

Yesterday OneDrive went from 18.131.0701.0004 to 18.135.0705.0003 and I didn't lose the .exe files from %localappdata%\Microsoft\Onedrive.

I did have the exclusion for that location in MalwareBytes.

This is the first update in many weeks that hasn't ended with OneDrive issues.

Looks hopeful, but will continue to monitor over the next few update cycles.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Yes, I think a pushed update of OneDrive from Microsoft is being blocked by Malwarebytes, causing failure in the middle of installation.

The last OneDrive push that I saw was 18.111.0603.0006_1 on July 17th.

I have chosen NOT to add a Malwarebytes exclusion.  I remember reading about some OneDrive vulnerabilities that Malwarebytes *might* be trying to defend against, so I'm leaning on the side of paranoia ;-)

    Up update here...

I've had a support ticket open with Malwarebytes since July 18.

    So far they have:

    1)  Collected my logs using a support tool

    2)  Collected advanced logs using their ARWLOGS program

    3)  Requested that I do a clean re-installation of Malwarebytes using their MBST.EXE

When I asked how we'll know if the clean re-installation resolves the problem (i.e., if they have root-caused / proved the problem to be caused remnants of prior installation), the support guy said some people were seeing OneDrive being removed by Malwarebytes as opposed to being caused by a failed OneDrive pushed update installation.

He proposed closing the support ticket, if after clean re-install it doesn't appear in a few days.  I'm trying to get him to understand/agree that since lots of us seem to be seeing the problem during pushed OneDrive updates, his proposed "wait a few days" idea makes no sense and won't prove anything.  I just sent another email to see if I can get through to him.

Any luck on the Microsoft support end of things??

    replying to last in line.

So glad I found this fix.  I have been dealing with this issue ever since I rebuilt my PC a month ago.  I run Malwarebytes and also have several subfolders under Onedrive.  I have moved the exe back under the root folder and everything is working again but would sure like to get this fixed for good.

    An update on my machine:

OneDrive has been functioning normally for more than two weeks now without me having to use OneDriveSetup.exe

The last update for me appears to be on the 1st August and the folder is: 18.145.0719.0003 - so that update installed without an issue.

However, I have NOT added any exclusions to Malwarebytes.

Since everyone else was, I thought at least one of us ought not to as a test.

That doesn't mean that Malwarebytes is not causing a problem, but it might not be. Or there is more than one problem here, some relating to Malwarebytes, some because of another reason.

Or the problem with Malwarebytes (or whatever) has actually been fixed, of course!

I will yell if I get the issue again.
