Why does my Onedrive.exe file disappear from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder?

For some reason, my onedrive.exe program gets deleted after a day from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder.

I have uninstalled OneDrive and then reinstalled it.  The program works for a day, but then the following day I notice that the OneDrive icon is not in my taskbar (i.e. OneDrive stopped running) and then when I go to launch the program, it says it can't fine OneDrive.  I navigate to the folder (noted above) and the OneDrive.exe file is no longer there.

This is really strange.

Can someone help?

Thanks so much for the reply.

I have tried reinstalling two different ways. The first was to run the installation file that is already part of the windows 10 operating system. The second way was to download the latest version from the Windows website. Both cases, the installation was successful and Onedrive functioned properly and had the OneDrive icon in file explorer.  And also placed the onedrive.exe file in the appsdata folder.

A day or two later, however, in both install methods, the OneDrive.exe file disappeared from the apps folder and i was not able to launch onedrive. When i went to the control panel to check to see if OneDrive was installed, the app was listed, but the icon looked messed up.

    Please advise.

    Thanks!

    Hi EricJM17,

To know effectively the reason why you can't launch OneDrive, I would like to know the following information below:

    • How did you reinstall OneDrive?
    • Can you see the OneDrive icon in the left pane of File Explorer? If so, what happens when you try to access it?

To check if OneDrive is still installed on your computer, do these steps:

    1. Click the Windows logo (Start button).
    2. Click System.
    3. Click Apps & features.
    4. Look for Microsoft OneDrive.

If you cannot see OneDrive on the list, we need to download OneDrive again so that we can reinstall it. To download OneDrive, click here.

I am looking forward to your response.
