Why does my Onedrive.exe file disappear from the %appdata%\local\microsoft\onedrive folder?

Right, so yesterday I reinstalled OneDrive by using the OneDriveSetup.exe that is INSIDE 18.101.0520.0002

Today, OneDrive is working correctly, so far.

So., whatever happened at the last update needs to be repaired by using this specific setup file.

Hopefully.....

I am having exactly the same problem, and I suspect it is since updating W10 to the April release.

In consequence, many of my files are not syncing, though office files are. What is more, when I open my onedrive folder location, it does not have any of the new word docs from that day in it because it is not syncing.

Like the OP, if I reinstall, it works, but the next day it is gone again.

I just entered the Appdata.... onedrive 18.101XXXX folder, clicked on onedrive.exe but didn't solve anything.

However, I clicked on the Onedrivesetup.exe and it went through a very quick "preparing for first use" and it is back to normal, including finding my correct file locations (my onedrive is on a second internal drive.)

But the onedrive.exe is now in yet another new folder: 18.101.0520.00002

What on earth is going on? I will shut down for the night and see whether it is working in the morning.

Oh, and before any clever idiot suggests it, I have an incredibly complex system, reformatting and reinstalling just is NOT a solution. :)

I am having the same problem. It seems to be caused by the Insider Preview build 18.101.0520.0002 of OneDrive. I tried downgrading, however OneDrive promptly updated itself after a few restarts and vanished. This is a huge issue for me as I need OneDrive synchronizing for my school work, and the online versions is simply not good enough and often causes errors, or is simply too inconvenient to use.

I would definitely appreciate being able to do my work again.

A quick, temporary solution I have found is by copying OneDrive.exe from the 18.101.0520.0002 folder into the main OneDrive folder at %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive and running it. It isn't permanent, but at least it works for now...

It just happened again.  This time, however, when I checked the folder in which OneDrive is installed:

C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive

I noticed that there was a new subfolder:

C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\18.091.0506.0006

When I looked in the folder, there was a new OneDrive.exe file.  

It would appear that OneDrive tried to update itself, deleted the old version of the exe file, but never fully installed the new version.  I rang the new OneDrive.exe file and the program began to work.

Do you have any idea why this continues to happen?

I share the same issue as reported here.

OneDrive.exe cannot be located by the shortcut anymore. However, it is still there in a different folder.

Starting it manually does not work, it reports an error message of a missing DLL.

It all seem to happen in the context of the KB4100403 update as, literally, OneDrive worked fine last night, this morning it has dissapeared.

The link provided here is also of limited help. When starting the setup.exe, the response it that a newer version has been installed already which should be reinstalled first (the leaves the question why the newest version is not provided for download and/or why the newest version is buggy).

Re-installing means also complete re-configuration of potentially 1TB of data to be re-syncronsized between the local machine and the cloud.

Definitely something not preferrable. I just hope that the sync works without data loss (which is not a given as I experienced earlier that the sync algorithm deals not perfectly with timestamps when documents are manipulated on different devices)
