Updating to Windows 10 version 1803 freezes on the Windows logo upon reboot

I've tried using Windows Update, repairing Windows update, using Windows Media Tool to create a bootable USB for a clean install, unplugging all peripherals including mouse and keyboard, reseting BIOS settings to defaults. No matter what I try, when booting to setup after installation through Windows Update, or when booting from the USB ISO the system hangs on the Windows logo for hours with no spinning dots and no hard drive activity. All I can do it hit the reset button. When trying to install via Windows Update and having to do a hard reset when it locks up, the resulting error code I find is 0xc1900101.

    I was able to fix the problem by disabling VT-d in my BIOS. As it stands, Windows 10 1803 will not boot if this is enabled.

    After 3 days fumbling around with this update, your solution brought end to my pain.

    I had the exact same problem with an Asus Zenbook Pro while Windows was trying and failing to install that 1803 update.

    Updating the Bios magically fixed this.

    I wonder how many Asus owners are going to be impacted by this really REALLY bad update experience...

    Windows 10 team: please fix this asap, and consider adding some extra test cases for future updates so this doesn't happen again. Thank you.

    I have the same problem, cannot boot now in 1803 with VT-D enabled.

    I heavily use virtualization and many many things do not work without VT-D.

    Would love to know if this will ever be resolved, my motherboard is a bit older but this all worked fine in all previous releases. No bios update will be coming I can only hope Microsoft finds and resolved the issue for us.

    Disabling VT-d on my Asus P6T Deluxe V2 also did the trick for me. Otherwise 1803 just freezes on first boot after update at the Windows logo.

    I'm running BIOS version 1108, for the record. There's a slightly newer one available but the changes don't appear relevant.
