Updating to Windows 10 version 1803 freezes on the Windows logo upon reboot

I've tried using Windows Update, repairing Windows update, using Windows Media Tool to create a bootable USB for a clean install, unplugging all peripherals including mouse and keyboard, reseting BIOS settings to defaults. No matter what I try, when booting to setup after installation through Windows Update, or when booting from the USB ISO the system hangs on the Windows logo for hours with no spinning dots and no hard drive activity. All I can do it hit the reset button. When trying to install via Windows Update and having to do a hard reset when it locks up, the resulting error code I find is 0xc1900101.

    Glad I found this post.  I was pulling my hair out because I have the exact same issue with an Asus P6T and the 1803 update.  Turning off VT-d fixes it.

    A TEMPORARY SOLUTION: 

    Unplugging my wireless mouse device from the USB plug helps me get back in. 

    I, too, have an issue where my computer would crash every time on reboot. I have an HP Spectre and the message I got said it could not find any boot device. However, when going into my BIOS VT-d was already disabled. 

    I have discovered that by unplugging the wireless mouse I can reboot fine. Then I just plug it back in. I did uninstall the mouse driver and restart the problem persists. 

    So it is something that needs to be fixed for sure, but at least I have a quick and easy way to get back into Windows. 

    I hope really hopes this helps others out, too!

    I had the same issue with the upgrade getting stuck at the windows logo.  I have a Asus Sabertooth x58 and the bios needed an update.  The update addressed the  following..."Improve VT-d compatibility issue".

    Yes, it looks like it's most of the time on Asus mainboards

    Same issue with my P6X58D-E, and asus won't launch a new bios update for this old mainboard I guess ...

    Anyone with this issue with another brand ?

    I have the same problem and i need VT-d as I run VM's.

    So this needs to get fixed.
