Updating to Windows 10 version 1803 freezes on the Windows logo upon reboot

I've tried using Windows Update, repairing Windows update, using Windows Media Tool to create a bootable USB for a clean install, unplugging all peripherals including mouse and keyboard, reseting BIOS settings to defaults. No matter what I try, when booting to setup after installation through Windows Update, or when booting from the USB ISO the system hangs on the Windows logo for hours with no spinning dots and no hard drive activity. All I can do it hit the reset button. When trying to install via Windows Update and having to do a hard reset when it locks up, the resulting error code I find is 0xc1900101.

    We have done some more test and some machines still failes even with the latest patches on 1709.

    But if we disable VT-d so the update continues and then update 1803 with the latest patches we can enable VT-d again after.

    Good.

    Can you try to upgrade to 1809 or latest Insider Preview?

    Also, is it possible to integrate it into a bootable iso?

    Since 1803- 2018 Oct. patches, all my problem machines> Lenovo-S20-Xeon, MSI-i5-2400, HP-Compaq-i2-quad.

    were cured after a total reinstall Win1803 Sept-Oct. Neither with nor without VT-x, it didn't really matter on my machines regarding the freezing on 1709 and early (first) 1803 updates. 

    Lenovo Yoga i7 Laptop was not affected by the freeze issue and survived all problem updates.

    I am on 1809 currently with all machines mentioned above working fine, and indeed since 1809 boot and appear to work a fair bit faster, specially on the older CPUs. The Xeon S20 workstation having been the most sluggish after the Intel security patch. Meanwhile, there seems to be a faster workaround for the Intel CPU security issue within late 1803 and 1809 updates.

    Do you guys really believe that installing 1809 is worth all the trouble and hoops you must jump through to get it done?? I am a tech, and programmer, and to this day, from the delayed release of 1809, I am still stuck on 1803. It has been delayed because it continues to install itself with no success. The (good?) people at microsoft must solve this problem in the next release or you and i can simply spin our wheels trying to invent a work around or just give up. I use GNU/Linux for my work, and microsoft for play, and thats about all the os is good for other than wasting countless hours of your time trying to fix something that should not exist, and if it is broken, should be repaired by the (good??) people at microsoft before it gets released.

    I was able to fix the problem by disabling VT-d in my BIOS. As it stands, Windows 10 1803 will not boot if this is enabled.

    Thank you, After disabling VT-d I can update without any issues but I am not able to understand this behavior, other same configuration machines are successfully able to upgrade to 1803 with VT-D enabled in BIOS. How about your environment?

    The latest servicing stack update and the latest cumulative update solved the VT-d problem for us in 1803.

    After the install and a reboot we could enable VT-d without any problem.

    We also update a machine from 1709 to 1803 after KB4486996 and KB4485448 without deactivating VT-d with success.

    So, for 1709 you need KB4486996 and KB4485448.

    For 1803 you need KB4485449 and KB4487017

    Ok, so, I tried to install a fresh new 1803 x64 into my i7 920 6 gb ram asrock x58 supercomputer geforce gtx560 and the 2 kb fix, but it didn't work.
