Updating to Windows 10 version 1803 freezes on the Windows logo upon reboot

Folks,

If you get to this point then the one thing that has worked for me and a few others is to disable VT-d on the motherboard. Until 1803 I never had an issue and this setting helps accelerate VMware significantly. I now have the option permanently disabled in my Bios because not only did it fail the install - it also fails boot now that I have successfully upgraded.

Hi there Seth-N-Michel it is frustrating when a simple process of Updating a system fails for unknown reason. Would appear from reading various posts that a fair number of customers have had problem with the latest Win Update 1803?

My impression is that those who have had issues with the latest Win 10 Update with Version 1803 must have had some internal issues with their systems, either software or hardware configuration/conflict, preventing a straightforward Win 10 Update to the latest Version 1803 of Win 10?

My build: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, Win 10 Version 1603, Boot Drive Crucial MX 500 1TB, Memory: 24GB G Skill DDR.3, Storage Seagate 4TB 

It would be worthwhile to try the Update method I used and see it works for you?

I have not had a single issue updating to any build other than 1803. The suggested 'fix' of using the repair tool finds the same issue each and every time it is run, "there was a corruption of the install files that has been fixed". This does not fix or correct the issue at all. I have updated 5 other PCs at home and they all have the same issue with freezing on reboot during the update process. I have to manually disable the update each and every week, since there is no way to turn off updates like in previous builds.

Microsoft needs to fix the issue with the installer, this is *not* a simple hardware issue, considering that 5 out of 7 PCs at home with the only ones that update without issues are Surface Tablet PCs.

I elected to go to MS and do my latest Win 10 Update to version 1803 from Version 1603 using the 'Win 10 Update Assistant' rather than waiting for the usual  Win 10 Update process.

The beauty about this method is that the Update Assistant will scan your system to see if it is capable to be Updated to the latest Win 10 Version 1803. It did not take long for this scan to complete before the download and install will begin.

The download and install will take time with a number of restarts and you just have to be patient b4 it is completed?

I did not have any problem at all, no freezing or blue screens during the Update process until completion!

The other win 10 Update method is to use the 'Media Creation Tool' that is also available as an alternative process that others have used?

I have continued to have this exact issue since the early beta roll out of this build. Machine does not have VT-d enabled, I have disabled or disconnected everything except the monitor, keyboard, mouse and HHD-1. I've dropped the RAM expansion that was preformed over a year ago. This distinctly appears to be a problem with the update itself. I have booted to a minimal boot configuration and it still locks up at the splash screen on the update reboot. I have used the update repair tool and it locks up at the splash screen on the update reboot.

Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, no longer even allows us to disable updates from occurring. Now we can only delay it for a few days and then have to go through the entire process of download, install and lock up once again at that point.

There appears to be too many people having this problem for it to be anything other than an issue with this particular build.

Beauty about this was the initial scan of your system by MS to make sure your system was capable to be Updated with Win 10, Version 1803 before the update. I had Win 10, Version 1607 before the Update to Version 1803.

I had no problem at all and the system restarted several times during the Update without any freezing at all!

I suspect that those that experience problem with the latest Version 1803 Update with freezing, must have had some internal problem ( software or hardware configuration) with their systems prior to the Update and would benefit from following the Update method I used to update their systems?

5 resets this week. Its getting beyond a joke.
