file explorer not showing thumbnails for onedrive folder

Many of my images have no thumbnail in my users one drive folder, even for files that are downloaded to my pc.

Full path C:\Users\myuser\OneDrive\Pictures\Camera Roll

How can I fix this? There was a time when thumbnails always worked for this folder, but I can't remember when this stopped working, it's been a couple/few weeks perhaps.

Also, why are some of the images near the end only available online. In my one drive settings this entire folder is set to sync.

I had the same issue and to fix it I went into the settings of the One Drive app and disabled (untick) the Files On Demand service then hit OK. Then after a restart of the PC all thumbnails within my One Drive folders had returned.

No I idea why this works but it did for me and hopefully will do for you also.

I was able to resolved this case

Just turn off Files on demand

1.)Select the white or blue OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows taskbar notification area.

2.) Click the three dots or ellipsis and then click Settings

3.)Go on Settings tab > Under Files on Demand > Untick Save space and download files as you use them

The One drive will restart itselft

    1. I am assuming that in File Explorer > View > Extra large icons. large icons or medium icons - One of them is checked, As these are only views which would show a thumbnail of picture.
    2. Now type Control in Windows Start Search box > Click Control Panel > Type Folder in Control Panel Search box > Click File Explorer Options > View tab > Uncheck Always show icons, never thumbnails (If this is already unchecked, check it and OK..Then go back again and uncheck it and OK
    3. Type control in Windows Start Search box > Click Control Panel > Type system in CP search box > Click View advanced system settings > Click Settings under Performance > Check Show thumbnails instead of icons

Nothing wrong in windows update troubleshooter except definition updates for windows defender.

No problems on sfc scan or dism.

I see thumbnails just fine in any other folder that has images, just not onedrive or subfolders within.

Incidentally I turned on extra large thumb nails in my one drive root folder, I saw thumbnails for several photos but then after a second or two it reverted to icon images. As if it was cached and then refreshed to show only the icons.
