I do not have an issue with Google Photos, those are correct. It is Microsoft OneDrive that you cannot change the dates of and it is only the old photos that were not taken with an Iphone. Any photos after Iphone are correctly placed into the photos.
OneDrive changing the dates on my photos?!?!?
Hello,
I recently uploaded 45,000 of our family photos to OneDrive, the dates ranging from 1999 to 2018. They had been previously separated in folders by year and month, so decided it was time to back them up in the cloud and take advantage of Microsoft's photo features through OneDrive. After uploading all of my photos, I was shocked to see that many of my photos were reorganized. Randomly, photos from 2002, 2005, 2009, 2014, and 2016 were shown as brand new photos with a current date stamp. I found that there were literally hundreds of photos that were RE-DATED to the the date that I uploaded the photos. Somehow, OneDrive physically changed the metadata on the Date Modified and Date Taken to reflect the date that I uploaded the photos, not the date that they were originally taken. Even worse, the uploaded picture permanently changed the date on my local pictures, so now these photos are irreversibly corrupted and I cannot organize them by date anymore.
Microsoft, this is a massively humongous bug in the OneDrive system that I found, by searching, has been questioned several times before. Whenever I look at those posts, the commenting has been locked so that nobody can comment anymore. Not sure why Microsoft wants this issue hushed by the community, but this problem will not just go away. It needs to be fixed as soon as possible!! We have thousands of photos that are unknowingly being corrupted, most people probably just haven't figured it out yet.
One potential solution to this problem would be to turn off whatever mechanism is redating photos/videos, or changing metadata. If anyone else is having this issue, please comment below. Microsoft, is there anything being done to fix this bug???
Thank you, and I respectfully appreciate your attention to this matter. OneDrive is a great service and I really hope to continue using it. This is just too big not to make top priority in resolving.

2020-04-26T15:06:58+00:00 I had the same issue with photos that were taken via digital cameras and all the pictures were randomly sorted. Since I am now using my Iphone to take photos the issue has resolved. I also noticed that they named all the photos the date taken. I never set my digital camera with dates and times ever. I still have no clue how to organize them and suggest you use Google Photos instead and before uploading, make sure each photo has a date taken in the details. This is very cumbersome, but easier than all the techy solutions.

2020-04-26T10:42:59+00:00 IF you use the file manager,/copy utility, TERACOPY which works seamlessly with Win !0 file manager, when you transfer files (copy or move) ........... THE DATES WILL NOT CHANGE.
THAT IS A COMPLETE SOLUTION
Greg, Tamara presented a solution to solve the problem without needing anything extra. I can't speak for someone else, but it looks like she was solving the problem in the simplest way possible, without requiring any third-party tools and not asking a question.
The info she provided is absolutely correct and the same one others here, including me, have provided. I find this whole thread silly at this point. Pretty clear people are posting their complaints without reading the thread, because the solution has already been provided: People are looking at the WRONG FIELD. "Date Created" (or sometimes shown as "Created on" or just "Created") is the wrong field. As long as you use the "Date Taken" field, everything works fine. Depending on the tool used to copy or move a file, the Created field may reflect the date it was placed on the new drive (e.g., OneDrive) or not. It is up to the copying tool to determine that. The Date Taken field, on the other hand, ALWAYS reflects the date the picture was taken. Sort by that and everything is golden.

2020-03-20T08:31:36+00:00 I hate to be contrary but I have some surprising observations. I have a Onedrive account with 1 terabyte and on my Win10 desktop I have five logical drives on two physical hard drives.
In my Onedrive account I have it turned off. That is in other words there is ZERO automatic
copying or backing up of my drive contents. Zero synchronizing of files etc. I use Onedrive purely
as a remote logical drive which is used manually..... that is to say I use Windows Explorer and
Teracopy Pro File manager to create my idea of version control. I create folders on OneDrive
such as "CAD 01-24-20 backup" and "CAD 03-13-20 backup" and "DOCS 01-04-19 backup"
and "Jobsite images 05-12-19" etc. I then manually drag and drop all of the files in the relevant directory on my desktop into the OneDrive backup folder. I copy from C: F: G: H: I: logical drives
on my desktop.
I cannot explain it but my Date Created field info does not and HAS NOT changed in two years
of this activity.
I am here for another problem dealing with Onedrive and found this thread which I thought might be helpful ....... and I never thought about changing creation dates before but I went back and looked and I do NOT experience the date created field being altered when copying files. For others affected here,
My suggestion might be that the synchronizing function is causing the problems. Turn it all off and try the copys/moves manually. Teracopy File Manager is superior to File Explorer as it provides many options when merging folders etc such as skip files with same size and date, or overwrite only older files, or keep both copies when over writing a file by amending a "(2)" character string to the older file name etc
MY problem..... is that some JPG images appear to exist on Onedrive with file size and date created info etc but when I try to view the image or download (copy manually), I get an error message saying "Cloud server is not running"

2018-05-16T14:05:56+00:00 J Oliver,
I do have Files On Demand enabled. Do you think that might be the problem?
Thanks for digging into this!
