Yes, last night I had to admit defeat on the upgrade route and undertake a clean install manually, which went flawlessly. It was just a matter of afterwards of updating a few drivers following one warning, and all is well with full internet and intranet
functionality (to make it all sound very grand and technical). The past history of updates has also been removed from the appropriate page.
I followed the 'no installation key' route, and it installed utilising my digital licence/license key (apparently). I didn't hear from Cortana, who must have been on a comfort break, but I did have to supply my router password, as usual. I will see what
Greg has to say on the subject of activation.
The mistake I made initially was not to have removed the old partitions from the hard disk before commencing the installation, which appeared to have caused the 'partitions are wrongly formatted' error messages.
