Windows 10 1803 Update Error 0xc1900101

Every month or so my laptop tries to do this update and always fails, no matter how many hours I let it be.  I have to always let it restore to the previous version.  My laptop is an aspire s7 from December 2013.  Yes, it's old(er), but it works fine. How do I get this update to either work for me, or stop the automatic updates?

1. You can stop updates for a while, but it will come back eventually.
2. Looks like you encounter a update fail loop, could be because of older update cache that blocked the new updates from taking over.
3. Either clean all the temporary files, try using CCleaner for this, and then retry the update.

We have no choice but to keep using windows 10 until we have better alternatives. The forced updates and subscription based model sucks, i only have bad wishes for everyone involving in making this in the final product. The karma will get to them.

From my understanding there are some tweaks / hacks that can be applied if you are running Win 10 Pro that may or may not work to suspend the update process. Not a whole heck of a lot for Windows 10 Home that I have found. A simple dip-switch to turn off would be nice yet do not foresee that ever being an option.

And unless you are prepared to dig into the bowels of the computer to find what may be ailing it (can be very time consuming and hit-n-miss as to whether you'll figure out what it is), your best option IMHO is to attempt a complete refresh (NOTE: back up your data as more than likely ALL will be lost). Can use the Media Creation Tool to fresh install the latest OS too, can be obtained directly from Microsoft. In my experiences (we've had lots on multiple computers) 99% of the time this is what it has come down too. And also in my experience, at some point your computer will no longer have the ability to restore itself to a previous version, nor will a repair work, or system restore, etc. Been there too many times making it hard to believe it'll play-out any different.

Me thinks MS needs to rethink their strategy w/Windows 10 as these updates are very inconsistent as to what the final outcome will be. It's one thing forcing a Cumulative Update but a Feature Update is another - I liken the latter as upgrading your PC to a new OS twice a year which one SHOULD have a choice of whether they want to or not - so achieving success essentially turns into a game of roulette where one Feature Update may install w/o issue but the next not being so forgiving, and round and round we go.

I've personally been giving up and reverting back to Windows 7 as I get to choose if we want updates installed or NOT. Allows for much more stability as one isn't fighting at every turn when an update like on Windows 10 doesn't play nice.

The problem is, there is no concise answers when it comes to errors if an update fails to install. I've had errors that mirrored many others yet their resolves rarely ever seemed to be mine. So one can try applying fixes yet there's no guarantee they'll hit pay-dirt. And IMO it'll more than likely turn into a cat-n-mouse game with the end results being a complete wipe anyway.

Have had several computers over the course of my dealings w/Windows 10 that were wiped to get an update installed because of the "failed loop", and minimal use afterwards. Along comes the next Cumulative Update and guess what? Yup you guessed it, same friggin' scenario. So what is MS doing as computers were working fine prior and seemed supported by previous update (once we got it installed)? Seems like they are always making changes to something that affects successful installs yet it's like pulling hen's teeth trying to figure out what these "something's" are.

I'll find a choice if need be because I refuse to let MS control me. Either we'll revert back to Windows 8.1 or earlier, MAC, or Linux. Been doing so already w/productivity ramping up and our stress levels going down. All I can say is "so much for Microsoft's attempt at advancements in technology" as it ain't working out too well in my opinion.

I have given up trying to update, Ver. 1709 is just fine. I had to update from Ver. 1607 because after many failed attempts my Laptop would not revert to the previous operating system. I had to reformat my HD and use an ISO to install Ver. 1709. As I have good backups I didn't lose any personal files, but it's a tedious process. My Laptop is a HP ENVY 17t-3200 CTO  A6U49AAR with a intel i7 1st. Gen. I have a backup Dell Laptop which mirrors my HP it's slow compared to my HP. but I use it to keep my HP running. I used to design AV rooms for a company in NY but now I am retired so I don't care. But it bugs me that Win-10 has these problems. There again is the problem, you would think MS could come up with an answer.
