Windows 10 1803 Update Error 0xc1900101

Totally agree with what you said. For me these post (suggested fixes, negative rants, or otherwise) just reaffirms to me Windows 10 "as a service" is no better off than the BSOD days. In actuality, and IMHO, we are worse off due to the fact the user is forced to apply these Feature Updates every few months and having to endure the widespread problems associated with them. They can be very disruptive and time wasting especially when things go awry, not my idea of being productive to say the least.

Back in the day (prior to Windows 10) I could continue on for years using a PC only applying the minor updates (if we so choose), basically the cumulative updates as they are called today. Pretty much worked perfectly fine day in and day out. Only time we might run into a problem was when upgrading to the next OS but we had a CHOICE whether to do such or not. Now were are FORCED into upgrading to the next reiteration of the OS w/Windows 10 because Microsoft in their infinite wisdom says we have too, at some point it becomes inevitable that we take the plunge - there's been more than one instance where a PC I was forced to update ended up being completely incapacitated (no longer booted into Windows) due to this mentality with the quickest resolve (for me) being a complete wipe. Such a sinking feeling when that happens.

Own many non-Microsoft devices that have been updated (many a times) since the inception of Windows 10 and can honestly say those experiences have been far superior. The process has been much quicker too compared to Microsoft's where theirs can take several hours waiting to find out if one is going to succeed or not - found in the majority of cases Windows fails in the last 75-80% stretch of the update so when it doesn't achieve its goal, one has spent all that time for not.

On a more uplifting note... In the past week and a half updated two computers to the latest (1803) w/o a hitch. Is this a sign of things to come? Being a pessimist due how Windows 10 Feature Updates have treated me, thinking not - it'll take an 80-90% success rate for me to change my tune and not foreseeing that happening any time soon.

Yes, they helped me more than you. At least they wrote to report the problem (which enlarges the list of affected users) and show how much it has affected them. Both things add pressure to Microsoft to fix the problem. Having in mind that there's almost nothing the users can do to solve this problem and the solution depends on Microsoft, I don't think silence is a better option than putting pressure on Microsoft to fix this serious problem which is affecting something as critical as updates.

On the other hand, you write only to say a user to leave this forum and make fun of him... Thank you!! What would we do without you?

Maybe that's right and Microsoft will never listen to the problems of their customers. Maybe Microsoft only changes their product when the NSA ask them...

But yet, 99% of the time, W10 somehow works.

You must be new here... This problem is here since two years or more, it's not solved, and it's causing troubles to more than 1% of the users. Troubles with OS updates. It's not something to despise, especially when you see Microsoft telling the users again and again the importance of having our OS updated.

Do you think you’re the first person to com on this site and threaten to switch to Mac/Linux?  There’s one of you in almost every thread.  And I’ll invite you to please:  go ahead.  Switch to Linux on your desktops.  And stink up *their* forums with your whining from now on.

That makes me ask myself two questions:

1. In your opinion, what should be the function of answers.microsoft.com? Only answers about how can be Windows so wonderful and why are the others OS pure **** in comparison?
2. If you don't care about the problems that the users of W10 are having with W10, why the hell do you enter in this thread and read the posts?

Myself?  I had to use posts where more professional techs shared actual experiences and information related to the topic, and didn't spend time simply whining, naively thinking higher-ups at Microsoft are going to see these empty threats and scramble to re-write the OS for us.  And my particular problem is solved.

You see, Microsoft makes an OS that works on an inordinate combination of components out there that could be cobbled together to make what we call a PC.  There are almost no two alike.  But yet, 99% of the time, W10 somehow works.  But the solution to what seem like identical problems may be solved in many different ways for the many differing configurations that exist.  Here is where we help each other identify them.

That age-old threat of "switching to Mac" shows real incompetence, and has become a tired cliche around here.  It's a waste of time and space.  So yeah, I call it out.

Any other questions are you're "asking yourself" that I could take a shot at?
