Windows 10 1803 Update Error 0xc1900101

Every month or so my laptop tries to do this update and always fails, no matter how many hours I let it be.  I have to always let it restore to the previous version.  My laptop is an aspire s7 from December 2013.  Yes, it's old(er), but it works fine. How do I get this update to either work for me, or stop the automatic updates?

Something for Microsoft to think about: as we see from above you can check the driver, environment at anytime, so why I do have to wait for the failure for 3h (on very fast hardware) ?

Please check at get go and tell me what to do - like 0x0nnnnnn specific to the hardware - or better yet write it in English. 

It happened before, I call them - Microsoft - they asked for $$$ to help I said no ; waited 1/2 year and free update eventually come and succeeded.

Translation:  People adding entries to this forum where they make hollow threats to switch OSes has helped you actually solve a problem.

Yes, they helped me more than you. At least they wrote to report the problem (which enlarges the list of affected users) and show how much it has affected them. Both things add pressure to Microsoft to fix the problem. Having in mind that there's almost nothing the users can do to solve this problem and the solution depends on Microsoft, I don't think silence is a better option than putting pressure on Microsoft to fix this serious problem which is affecting something as critical as updates.

On the other hand, you write only to say a user to leave this forum and make fun of him... Thank you!! What would we do without you?

Maybe that's right and Microsoft will never listen to the problems of their customers. Maybe Microsoft only changes their product when the NSA ask them...

But yet, 99% of the time, W10 somehow works.

You must be new here... This problem is here since two years or more, it's not solved, and it's causing troubles to more than 1% of the users. Troubles with OS updates. It's not something to despise, especially when you see Microsoft telling the users again and again the importance of having our OS updated.

I decided to bite the bullet and do a clean install; this worked. I will find out whether the next major update will have the same problem or that I escaped from this Windows Update catch 22.

My PC with the 1803 problem only does one thing: play music and send it to a receiver via the HDMI port. So I had very little to reinstall.

But if one has a lot installed this is an unacceptable workaround. It is almost a "Car runs out of gas, replace the engine" type of solution. Microsoft should clean up its act on Windows update.

One thing that comes to mind is better error reporting that points out more than the error code.
