Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4103721 Version 1803

This update has some serious issues, specifically. Do NOT install this update after updating to Windows 10 version 1803. It will prevent your computer from booting up. I am stuck on the spinning circle for a long time. I have to use a Windows 10 USB to boot into the Troubleshooting and use Command Prompt to boot into safe mode. Please fix this update!

I discovered that if you installed a program from Iobit (like Driver Booster, for example) it creates a service called "LiveUpdate" with full name, as I remember, "LiveUpdateSvc".

Even if you remove the program the service will remain and this cause the KB4103721 update to fail to boot Windows after the update.

Uninstall all Iobit programs and remove the service from the administrator command prompt typing "sc delete LiveUpdateSvc" (check it is the correct service name) and then you will be updating Windows without any problem.

I experienced this issue on two computers and this has been the solution.

    KB4103721   AGRAVATING

    Same problem on two computers running Spring Creator 1803.  Will not boot after KB4103721 installed.

    Fix for me was to get to Safe Mode.  Microsoft has even made Safe Mode hard to find.  After two or three power off on during hung screen, Repair Screen appears.

    Find Safe Mode link. I used F5 to get to Network Safe Mode.

    If you can get to Safe Mode, go to the Windows directory and rename or delete the “SoftwareDistribution” folder where the bad files are stored.  This folder will re-create on next boot.

    If you get back to NORMAL Windows go to the Advanced Options Update and set to: ”Temporary pause for 35 days ….” 

    Wait for Microsoft to fix this mess.

    Also run SFC /scannow

    Worked for me.

    KB4103721  AGRAVATING  Wasted hours. 

    This worked, thank you! 

    Microsoft get your act together!!

    White SamArrow, please note my posting yesterday.

    You do not need to uninstall ASC, just change it's setting in "Services" from Automatic to "Manual".

    It may not only apply to ASC since some are reporting this problem and they do not own ASC, so probably they

    have other software which runs a service that will interfere with certain Windows Updates.

    It took me days to work out what was causing the problem, but like you now is all well. :-)

    I have also faced the same problem on two of my computer but now installed without any problems. Just disable all services excluding microsoft services using msconfig. For more details you can check this video at https://youtu.be/7LnGB7aL\_8w. If no ASC is installed also then one have to disable services like Cyberlink video, nero etc.
