Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4103721 Version 1803

This update has some serious issues, specifically. Do NOT install this update after updating to Windows 10 version 1803. It will prevent your computer from booting up. I am stuck on the spinning circle for a long time. I have to use a Windows 10 USB to boot into the Troubleshooting and use Command Prompt to boot into safe mode. Please fix this update!

I discovered that if you installed a program from Iobit (like Driver Booster, for example) it creates a service called "LiveUpdate" with full name, as I remember, "LiveUpdateSvc".

Even if you remove the program the service will remain and this cause the KB4103721 update to fail to boot Windows after the update.

Uninstall all Iobit programs and remove the service from the administrator command prompt typing "sc delete LiveUpdateSvc" (check it is the correct service name) and then you will be updating Windows without any problem.

I experienced this issue on two computers and this has been the solution.

    Yeah, I just shutdown /f /s & hit enter. It showed a screen of Windows updating. But I don't think it did anything really. Because I could start Windows back up, and when I look under 'update history' there are not updates installed.

    back up and running again I cloned my os and data from backup HDD to ssd to over write that crappy 1803 so called update, I have also paused automatic  updates in the hope someone at MS will get their thing together and write code that works!!!!!  now my laptop boots in 10seconds again.  for anyone who wants adifferent expirence try ubuntu 16.04 LTS   you can download the iso onto a usb and try it before you install, I took the plunge back in 2012 with Ubuntu 12.04LTS and have upgraded every two years with each new LTS(long term support} version, theres a ton of supporting videos on you tube its not the same as windows Linux likes to give you control over stuff, don't be put off by those who have never used it or did use it 10 years ago, Linux Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04 work out of the box, updates are painless , try it and set your self free, it also works well on some older hardware.

    Same problem on all eight PCs - from intel 7 cpus to amds.  What a nightmare.  Like everyone else still waiting for some solution from Microsoft.

    I did. But If I want to shut down my PC I only get these options:

    • Sleep
    • Update and Shutdown
    • Update and restart

    So I wonder, even though I did turn off the update service, how can I shut down my PC without updates being installed?

     Well if it's not waiting to install the updates already, a "cmd" window then type shutdown /f /s & hit enter

     Otherwise let it shutdown, restore the the previous version like I did, come up with no network enabled (off wifi or unplug network / lan line), disable updates, reboot, create a NEW system restore point, then hope that MS gets its act together and pulls it.

     I have a SRX case open already & can't get them to acknowledge a problem, they're telling me it's a GPO problem that I should disable all GPOs and allow the update, it's remarkable these people get employment in my field, insulting really.

     As for another suggestion to disable "Advanced System Care 11" .. & try to patch again Interested in that solution ....
