Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4103721 Version 1803

This update has some serious issues, specifically. Do NOT install this update after updating to Windows 10 version 1803. It will prevent your computer from booting up. I am stuck on the spinning circle for a long time. I have to use a Windows 10 USB to boot into the Troubleshooting and use Command Prompt to boot into safe mode. Please fix this update!

I discovered that if you installed a program from Iobit (like Driver Booster, for example) it creates a service called "LiveUpdate" with full name, as I remember, "LiveUpdateSvc".

Even if you remove the program the service will remain and this cause the KB4103721 update to fail to boot Windows after the update.

Uninstall all Iobit programs and remove the service from the administrator command prompt typing "sc delete LiveUpdateSvc" (check it is the correct service name) and then you will be updating Windows without any problem.

I experienced this issue on two computers and this has been the solution.

    KB4103721   AGRAVATING

    Same problem on two computers running Spring Creator 1803.  Will not boot after KB4103721 installed.

    Fix for me was to get to Safe Mode.  Microsoft has even made Safe Mode hard to find.  After two or three power off on during hung screen, Repair Screen appears.

    Find Safe Mode link. I used F5 to get to Network Safe Mode.

    If you can get to Safe Mode, go to the Windows directory and rename or delete the “SoftwareDistribution” folder where the bad files are stored.  This folder will re-create on next boot.

    If you get back to NORMAL Windows go to the Advanced Options Update and set to: ”Temporary pause for 35 days ….” 

    Wait for Microsoft to fix this mess.

    Also run SFC /scannow

    Worked for me.

    KB4103721  AGRAVATING  Wasted hours.

    I have started to clone my original hdd back onto my ssd using Samsung software that came with ssd . I only installed ssd in Feb this year, I updated the original hdd before this clone today but excluded 1803 all my files are backed up on cloud, I use Linux as my daily desktop build for last 6years and have never had this crap happen, I am glad I kept the original hdd,  I believe that firmware may also be at the centre of some problems but mainly it's down to bad code from micro$oft

    I have just spent the last 3 hours trying to fix my computer because of this update! 

    I restored the laptop to the only point I had which is the day of the update. I ran the 'show/hide' tool, which, after 3 attempts finally listed the update. I selected it to be hidden, but the power options still had 'update and restart'. I expected that to be ignored because I'd ran the s/h tool, but it wasn't. Widows still failed to boot! 

    This may well be because system restore only took me back to the point before restart and not to before install. This is baffling, because you'd expect the restore point to be set to before the installation. 

    Next I tried working in safe mode. The computer booted, but the 'Windows Update' page is blank apart from the heading. All other settings pages work fine, so what' going on? I've even tried going to 'programs and features' in the control panel and selecting update history from there, but this one is not listed. 

    I am loathed at the prospect of having to reinstall Windows because of this! Only 2 cumulative updates have installed correctly since the start of Windows 10!

    It's high time Microsoft gave us back full control of all updates!
