This is happening to me too, same update, I just get stuck in a boot cycle where it reverts and tries again and fails.

The procedure didn't work for me.  I had used it once before to fix this issue with an earlier update.

I'm not certain but I bet the Windows Update Troubleshooter does basically the same thing and it said it fixed everything but it didn't.  And I ran it twice and got the same results.

This sucks.  MS needs to fix this.  I have another HP Win10 desktop and it doesn't have this issue.

    From another thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_10-update/failed-install-2018-03-cumulative-update-for/140c7c68-8cd9-44fb-a9b7-bf3241846af5

Before installing KB4093112, KB4088776 has to be installed correctly first. Try installing KB4088776 first by doing this:

    a) Search cmd in the Windows search bar. Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator

    b) On the open Command Prompt window, copy and paste the commands (all at once)

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    c) Download KB4088776 from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4088776, and install it.

    d) Restart your computer.

    e) Do parts a) and b) again

    f) Download the Delta update for KB4093112 from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4093112, and install it

Thanks for the response. Update- i continued to force shutdown and then startup the computer until it didnt load correctly. This gave me the option to go to troubleshoot options and clicked the restart system and just re installed the whole windows 10 and this time it maintained integrity and booted up properly and this fixed my login issue however it wiped everything. I didnt have much on it but just an fyi for anyone who does this way.

I too have a 6-year-old Inspiron and I'm not having any update problems on it, but I have had that "log-in" issue.  Try to re-type your password slowly and then hit "enter".  That has worked for me.  this is just one of the many "bugs" in v1709 of Win 10; however, I learned some good news yesterday from an Answer Desk (Microsoft's Paid support service) tech.  He told me that there is a whole new version of Win 10 coming sometime in May (which they are working on now) which, among other things, will address and repair the many bugs in "build 1709".  so I am going to just wait until this happens.  Strangely, however, it's my 3-year-old Dell Inspiron that is having the "Update Issue" and not my 6-year old model.  Go figure.  Apparently, according to the tech, some machines don't have the proper drivers installed to smoothly operate Windows 10 and this is causing problems with updates, but I'm not sure why.  That is above and beyond my pay grade.  But, again, the tech told me not to worry and just wait until sometime in May.  (That's when Bill Gates descends from the mountain with his new tablets!)   Take care everyone!
