I am afraid this did not help in my case. I was given an older Dell with Vista. My friend promptly updated me to Windows 8.1 Pro and I have (for the most part) been one happy PC owner ever since. But starting about a year ago, I was starting to get into some unusual problems and was informed that my days may be numbered. Some of the newer updates required things that just could not be done with this old machine. To avoid or at least put off bringing about a premature death of the system, I turned off auto updates and have been getting by ever since, but this particular problem was the end. The updates ran in a circle that eventually locked me onto a blue screen that said I needed to restart. Nothing worked from there. Funeral will be friday. I am writing this on my new Dell with Windows 10. Walmart had an online deal I could not refuse. The machine is new and shiny with that "New Laptop" smell, but like a few others, I prefered my 8.1. I suppose I will get used to this one.
When my computer was in for repair it reverted to 8.1 & techs didn't notice. I thought I was running 10 & the downloads giving me the error were apps for 10. They restored my computer to 10 & no more error notice
I am inclined to agree with you Colin. My MS store apps were working better for a few days except for a few live tiles, now the apps seem to be reverting to acting erratically. I have trouble getting into the app store or going to my account, too. I am using Windows 8.1 and will not go to 10 because I tried it and went back within an hour. I really hope MS can start serving their customers the way they should.
