File System Error (-2147219196) - Can't open photos, groove, calculator...

Updated to Version 1803 OS Build 17134.1

Now cannot open Photos, Groove, Calculator, and I'm sure a bunch of other apps....

Any help would be appreciated.

Open Start, type: powershell

Right click PowerShell

Click Run as administrator



Type the following command then hit Enter, exit PowerShell then restart, then try updating through the Store again.



Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($\_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Check if you can launch the Microsoft Store, then update the apps.

If this does not work, I recommend you attempt a repair upgrade:

    To be honest, after reading your reply, I have decided to look for another suitable photo viewer. I tried to do what you suggested but I couldn't get it to work. 

    I thank you for your reply and the way you worded it. Take care...

    I still don't understand how the Microsoft team can issues updates without making sure that there is no damage to other apps... Just an observation..

    I'm sorry that I wasn't able to provide you a better solution for your issue. Basically such an error should not happen because the root cause is inscrutable. I haven't googled since then after the error message so I'm not sure if there is already more information / discussion on the topic (from microsoft or other users).

    Something that I have to say thought is, that an operating system is a very complex construct and it is nearly impossible to cover every possible error situation before each release, build or patch. The actual issue is not that error or bugs do occur but rather the actual support from Microsoft in such cases. You are actually in front of a black box and even most of the MS staff won't be able to help because they simply don't have access on the knowledge to determine what's going on.

    I hope that at least in the future MS targets the support by providing better help and resolution in such cases. Because errors aren't always preventable and can happen. The most useful answers do in 90% of the cases come from other users and very often not from MS staff. Which is crazy because they have built this thing and should know better.  That is something which really bothers me...because the user is simply left alone. I won't even start talking about Feedback-Hub which is unusable doesn't provide anything useful and we can say that this thing was already dead on arrival....it's just a blackhole of senseless characters/questions... I never got any reply from anyone from microsoft over this app....or anything useful out of it.

    I hope that MS will establish better channels or at least better train their employees because many answers and help attempts are just embarrassing... they simply repeat the same s*** in every answer. That is something that won't help anyone...

    Hello Leo,

    you are right a Redstone update can also solve such issues (but as always this is not guaranteed) ... however I didn't recommend it because it might break other stuff and can easily cause even more severe issues :). 

    But if you have time and a clone of your OS partitions, it is always worth a try, some otherwise unfixable network issue and a severe bug with the Windows Update (no updates were applied anymore) were simply gone after switching from RS3 to RS4 in my case.
