OneDrive automatically deleting files from OneDrive folder

I don't think Microsoft has a generic solution to fix everybody's issue with onedrive. When I contacted Microsoft with this issue their first answer was "onedrive never deletes the files" well this is a halfway true statement is more like it sends the files straight to recycle bin which can be considered as deleting files.

Now for fixing the issue.... that's a different story. I needed to let Microsoft get on my PC basically shared the desktop, I needed to install 1 or 2 applications (can't remember now what was the name of the apps)  which were capturing the packages and we ended up to create files and they saw with there own eyes what's happening. they also take some log files whats onedrive was creating. We did this probably for 45-50 minutes. after about 3 days I got an email and a follow-up call letting me know that the issue was fixed. Sure thing since then knock in the wood didn't have issues. This issue was over a year ago.

This is why I assume that my issue it may be slightly different than yours (or the CEO's in this case) even the end result is the same. If would be the same the issues would be probably already fixed with the next patch after they fixed mine.

In my case, I had several devices synced to the same account (2 win 10 pro, 1 win 8.1 enterprise, 1 iPad pro, 1 android phone).

I did not hear any similar issues with Google drive.

Or with Dropbox. I use Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive and I never worry about logging onto an old laptop that I've not logged on to for ages or restore an image on my main PC. OneDrive fills me with fear that it'll restore long deleted files and folders as it syncs back to this very old copy. Never worry about Dropbox or Google Drive doing something similar. 

It's a pretty crap situation to be in... at least these days it doesn't appear to overwrite any new or modified files but you now end up with clashes with the PC name on the end. This has got so bad that I've written a Powershell script to remove the bad duplicates.

It is my honest opinion that this is due to some deep routed algorithmic problem in OneDrive that Dropbox and Google Drive just do better. I suspect they keep better metadata of the history of the file system so can make the right choices when an old sync folder is brought back into live and/or you restore an old image or VM snapshot.

I am still having this same issue as you have mentioned.

It's weird because It will delete my files and send them to my desktops recycle bin where I can then restore them. After doing this several times it will usually stop deleting those files. Sometimes it will delete new files almost immediately and other times it works fine until I restart my pc and then I'll find my files deleted and in the recycle bin.

I stopped getting those messages about deleting so I thought it was fixed , then hey presto got one yesterday. Can't believe Microsoft has not fixed this!

I have been using onedrive since late 2015. And I really never had this issue until the beginning of this year. I have read some posts that go all the way back to 2015 and it sounds like they were having the same issue. I'm wondering if they had fixed it and then it "broke" in a recent update. I don't know that that group ever did get it fixed though.
