OneDrive automatically deleting files from OneDrive folder

The OneDrive forum appears to have been locked, so I am trying this one.

I moved some large files (photos) to my OneDrive folder to share between PCs and left them synchronising.  When I came back to check on their progress, the files had disappeared from the PCs.  Looking at the OneDrive window it shows them being added to Onedrive then mysteriously being removed a few minutes later.  What on earth is going on?    I tried Ctrl & Z to see if it could undo the removal.  The files looked as if they were being restored - but just disappeared again.  It's a good job I noticed, otherwise I could have lost these files forever.  I can't afford to have my important files just disappearing like that.

Our firm is using OneDrive to store our file system in order to work on the go. It had appeared to be working successfully for a number of months until today when we were looking for files to be referenced in an upcoming set of exhibits for a potential lawsuit. THE WHOLE FOLDER of exhibits had been erased. When we found out about this I started looking through the recycle bin and found A TON OF MISSING FILES!

This is absolutely unacceptable and could have the potential to cause a business to go under.

Has anyone been able to help on the solution for this?

If Microsoft is unwilling to address these issues we should all assemble for a class action lawsuit.

Agree. Microsoft has ignored this thread for years. Any way Satya Nadella (MS CEO) gets involved?

I'm surprised there isn’t a long line of lawsuits concerning Microsoft's very evident negligence. I'm sure the first one will start a huge avalanche or at least a class action.

I have also just experienced this. I happened to notice the deletion because it was recent and I happened to need the file. Fortunately I found the files in the onedrive recycle bin.

I have 1 home PC and 2 laptops that syncs to the same onedrive folder. Perhaps this is an issue with onedrive.

Now I am extremely worried for all the files that onedrive deleted without my knowledge, that have slipped my attention. I do not have a backup as such, my files in onedrive are my online backup. How wrong I was to trust microsoft.

I'm done with onedrive. I am moving over to google drive. I have tried to search the same issue for google drive and it seems to be less prevalent.

While I am at it this is a good chance to move away from microsoft office completely with google sheets or Libre Office.

    Good luck to everyone.

I did not go through every single post in the thread, however today I am seeing what onedrive is doing live.

I copied 2 files into the folder synced to onedrive. Less than one minutes after moving the file, it would get deleted by onedrive and appear in windows recycle bin. Restoring the file works but onedrive promptly deletes the file again. I have now restored the file from onedrive's recycle bin.

I believe this happened because both PCs that are syncing to the same folder are running at the same time. When I copy a file into a folder on PC 1, that file doesn't exist in PC 2, therefore onedrive deletes the file in PC 1. I will not be doing further testing, I am going to move to google drive ASAP.

This is scary stuff. I advice EVERYONE with a folder synced to onedrive to monitor their windows and onedrive recycle bin CONSTANTLY. This appears to happen after the latest windows 10 update.
