OneDrive automatically deleting files from OneDrive folder

I am suddenly having the same problem in an environment that has been rock solid stable for well over a year now.

Here's what just happened to me:

1. In Excel I created a brand new spread sheet into a local folder that's synchronized with OneDrive.
2. I saved & then closed the file from within Excel
3. I came back a little later and used Recent Files to re-open the same file from within the Same Excel session.     Excel says that the file doesn't exists.   What???
4. I look around and it's in my local Recycle Bin, from which I recover it.
5. I work on it some more, save it again.   Return again later and once again Excel says the file doesn't exist.
6. I open Cloud OneDrive in the browser and look there.   Lo and behold, it's in the Cloud OneDrive's recycle bin so this time I recover it on the cloud, and it reappears a few seconds later in my local folder.
7. I work some more and now it seems to stay around.

This has happened for me in several scenarios over the past few days but I've never personally had this happen to me before -- at least not that I'm aware of.

I'll be spending my weekend going through my OneDrive recycle bin to make sure nothing else got wrongly deleted by OneDrive.

Things just go from bad to worse!

I thought that I would check my OneDrive recycle bin to make sure that OneDrive hadn't deleted anything else without me knowing.  Now, when I try to view online, I get "Cannot securely connect to this page".  You couldn't make it up if you tried!

My main client uses OneDrive for Business for their personal documents and SharePoint for shared files. I was so worried about the level of stability and support on these two systems that I convinced them to pay the extra for Veeam Office 265 backup with iLand. Not a perfect solution but at least we have a 3rd party backup where we can access the backup to restore documents.

Cloud storage is great for business continuity in that the provider will keep the system running but not very good for disaster recovery due to lost/corrupt documents. At least OneDrive for Business can restore back to a point in time. Can OneDrive personal not do this?

Thanks for the details, Rob! I am going to do the same after I speak with IT and explain to them what my personal experience, or should I say nightmare has been.

You have been more helpful and active in this thread than their own support staff that are dedicated to helping users troubleshoot, I still can't wrap my head around their response time and  response. Rather than looking into my (and everyone else's) problems on a case by case basis, they have opted to send generic responses and point us to the online guides.

Not sure if you know the answer to this Rob, but If I were to upgrade my account, do you think the restore feature will work? Here is a step by step as to what happens when I click on the "restore drive" :

Click on Gear button and go to options > Click on Restore your oneDrive

I literally just lost GB's of videos and files. Microsoft services support tells me that I never uploaded these to OneDrive. That's the level of support that were getting here.

As someone who works at a large tech company, i'll do everything in my power to get us some answers for the very least. Look at this shameful support corresponce with their support:

I am in AWE with the level of support and being told I never uploaded these files rather than a technical account manager following up with me and escalating my case to engineering.
