OneDrive automatically deleting files from OneDrive folder

The OneDrive forum appears to have been locked, so I am trying this one.

I moved some large files (photos) to my OneDrive folder to share between PCs and left them synchronising.  When I came back to check on their progress, the files had disappeared from the PCs.  Looking at the OneDrive window it shows them being added to Onedrive then mysteriously being removed a few minutes later.  What on earth is going on?    I tried Ctrl & Z to see if it could undo the removal.  The files looked as if they were being restored - but just disappeared again.  It's a good job I noticed, otherwise I could have lost these files forever.  I can't afford to have my important files just disappearing like that.

    Rob-----Probably the most apposite comment on this entire thread.

    I'm not a software engineer, I build Hospitals if I built them to Microsofts standards they would all unexpectedly fall down one day.

    I have used OneDrive for years & Windoze since 3.1 & I'm still fighting the same ****

    Hi, I have just had another UNWANTED MS update this time to Office for Mac & have suddenly had about 40 files I have NOT deleted appear in the Trash on my Mac.

    Last month OneDrive decided to move most of its content (except photos) into OneNote, I actually quite like OneNote & use it a lot but I am now getting to the stage where I can't trust ANYTHING Microsoft touches.

    I moved to a Mac to get rid of the gremlins & it's perfect EXEPT for OneDrive & MS Office which I'm tied to for work, I am just so SICK of MS messing my stuff up.

    This happened to my Mac High Sierra today! My whole fold was moved to recycle bin and its hierarchical relation between files are removed! I was so scared and I'm going to switch to google drive now....

    Hello

    I noticed this today too. My issue was with my personal OneDrive - the one linked to my Microsoft Account. I do also subscribe to the Business Essentials package for Exchange / Teams / SharePoint etc. but that one has been fine.

    I have a process for my photo library that goes like this:

    1. Shoot and edit the photos on my MacBook
    2. Move the RAW files onto an external 1tb disk.
    3. Using a tool called GoodSync I keep the folder structure of the external disk synchronised with a folder structure in my One Drive.
    4. When I import the files, they initially land on my Windows 10 PC and then of course sync up to OneDrive.
    5. I then make 4 more copies of the folder structure across other external disks (I like to be safe).

    So, today I ran an import from the initial external disk as I had a few weeks of new photos.

    1. I noticed a pop-up on the Windows 10 PC stating that a large number of files had been recently deleted
    2. This was odd as the sync from the disk was for new files, nothing deleted.
    3. I took a look in the online recycle bin, and there were several thousand files in there, spanning several years of the folder structure.
    4. I checked, and the files were present on the external disk, I had not deleted them.
    5. I restored the files and am now re-downloading around 30gb back to my Windows 10 PC.

    I am positive that I have not touched these files in years - the structure goes back 18 years and the deleted files were spread across that structure.

    This smells like a bug in the OneDrive servers to me.
