OneDrive automatically deleting files from OneDrive folder

This is completely unacceptable Microsoft. The name is too big to allow such a catastrophic problem to linger over three years. I started noticing the problem since April 12 and I still keep getting the popup. I have to go and get my file restored from recycle bin and then it will move the file again to recycle bin. How long am I going to be doing this? It is very annoying. Wake up Microsoft, wake up!!.

It even says files in recycle bin are deleted after 93 days which makes even more scary. So if you do not check the recycle bin to restore the files, you may lose them.

Sadly, this issue has been discussed at least since 2015: BEWARE - OneDrive keeps moving files to recycle bin by itself!

I think many of us, are just noticing now because we are getting the "deleted files" message. There are so many threads on this issue: google: onedrive is deleting files.

At this point, my only solution is to stop using OneDrive. I was already using DropBox for a lot of data (3 TB plan). I'm going to switch my OneDrive (M365 2TB subscription) content to Google Drive. It's becoming a daily issue that I no longer want to deal with.

Today OneDrive also deleted my very important files. This is beyond irony, "cloud storage" which deletes your files without any warning or action from your side randomly. Actually it deleted my most important files, so looks like Microsoft has AI built in which detects most important files you have and deletes them. That's literary what happened to me.

I am uninstalling this GARBAGE, I just hope I will be able to do so. Can any MVP guide us how to get rid of this VIRUS from our PCs/mobile devices so we can keep our files and make sure Microsoft software does not delete our files on it's own?

Further problems with OneDrive followed from the original post.  It would sit there all day supposedly 'synchronising' the files but getting nowhere.  The giveaway was when it said it was downloading files at 0.0 Mb/sec.  Trial and error showed that the files it was struggling with were Office files that had been password protected.  I'd never had that problem before but suddenly it raised its ugly head.  Microsoft support told me that synchronising password protected Office files only works if one has a subscription to Office 365.  Well, that was news to me!  It had been working fine up until the last Windows update.  If the answer IS true, it slaps all those, like me, in the face that have paid for Office 2016.  I find it dreadful that we get treated with such disdain.

I am seeing this same issue at my place of work. I've countless hours trying to find the root cause of this and still no bread crumbs. I also agree that OneDrive is the issue here and here is why. I have OneDrive on a desktop that no one but myself has access to, (it's mainly a file storage for certain processes we have) anyway, I have not added, removed or even logged into OneDrive nor have any other computer connect to the location in OneDrive and just yesterday all my folder and files were in the Recycling Bib of Sharepoint for the site/OneDrive location. Unless there is a OneDrive troll running around and deleting things, this seems to be a Microsoft problem that needs to be fixed asap.

I have noticed that numerous files are getting purged, in most cases within seconds of their creation date/time.  I have been using One Drive for my business for the past 18 month and very frequently need to re-authenticate and setup the one drive application.  While this is inconvenient, I had not been missing files until the past month+.   I can usually find the files in the recycling bin but upon restore they are generally deleted again almost instantaneously.  My work around is to restore to a desktop or documents folder.  Microsoft, I am a partner and you are taking all of my customers to your cloud, I am using one drive so I know what my customers are experiencing and I concerned.  I highly recommend using a 3rd party tool to backup your One Drive files so they are external to the MS cloud.  What if you cannot find your files in the Recycling Bin?  A Swing and a miss Microsoft.  I want it to work, it just is not reliable enough for prime time.
