HomeGroup is gone in Windows 10 version 1803!

My PC upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 1803 yesterday during automatic updates. This morning I attempted to view files in my network. Home Group is no longer available in this newest update. It seems in their wisdom they decided it was not needed and provided other solutions to share files/directories. I following the instructions to share files/directories via Windows Explorer. Guess what? You can not share directories only individual files at one time. This is not acceptable. After much trial and error I found a work around. As long as you have the name of the PC in your network you can enter "\PCNAME" and it should give you access. Bring back Home Group to the Windows operating system!

    This wouldn't be a problem if it all worked but time and time again now the updates cause untold problems, this is why you then need the next update because the first one was rubbish. Sorry but the guys and girls at Microsoft need to get there act together. Not Amused. More wasted time fixing problems not of my making. You get the impression they don't test and don't care.

    A few years ago on an IT  website, I read the Microsoft closed there U.S. test operation and then offshored the work.  That could explain why time and time again now the updates cause untold problems in Windows 10.

    Tried but not working.  I entered \the pc name of my other pc, but only get "file not found." What did I do wrong?  Hope MS would bring back Home Group.

    Thanks fr posting the fix from pc to pc. Before I start noodling around in areas I'm not really familiar with, wanted to pose a related query. I had been (before 1803) sharing files from pc to smart tv's through HomeGroup. Now, with HomeGroup gone, my tv's fail to connect to the internet, I'm assuming because the HomeGroup is gone. What I'm wondering is whether this fix will make it possible for the smart tv's to see the 'host' pc content again, if you know?

    I can't help you with the smart TV networking as I still use a dumb tube TV as it has not died yet 🙄 When it finally goes, I will get a new TV.  You can always try my computer solution that I posted, but I know nothing about smart TV's.

    Well your tv connected to homegroup because of the TV provider box and software. Just like my directv has a homegroup setup and shows in my network folder, but now probably is useless without the homegroup. Never used it, but it is a Homegroup connection for sharing.
