HomeGroup is gone in Windows 10 version 1803!

My PC upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 1803 yesterday during automatic updates. This morning I attempted to view files in my network. Home Group is no longer available in this newest update. It seems in their wisdom they decided it was not needed and provided other solutions to share files/directories. I following the instructions to share files/directories via Windows Explorer. Guess what? You can not share directories only individual files at one time. This is not acceptable. After much trial and error I found a work around. As long as you have the name of the PC in your network you can enter "\PCNAME" and it should give you access. Bring back Home Group to the Windows operating system!

    Steve,

    I confirmed that both my desktop towers are connected by ethernet only and WiFi is turned off on the both of them. I was able to run Microsoft SyncToy to add new ripped music to my media server. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this still works after Microsoft's next big update.

    Steve,

    Okay I just proved to myself that I'm not actually using "Settings > System > Shared Experience> Nearby Sharing using WiFi" because I turned the feature off restarted both computers, the drive and folders were still discoverable and accessible. I have no explanation other than I'm on version 1809 of windows and flipping that feature on enabled network discovery.

    Thanks for the Windows TenForums link.  I like TenForums.  Good stuff! I will take a thorough look at this article.  I may have to use it after installing 1809.

    OneDrive replaces all this Homegroup stuff anyways.  

    I get the point - instead of 6 copies on various partitions on devices just one permanent copy - once set up Homegroup.

    I don't see your problem though - ALL YOUR FILES are on your 2 computers. 

    Just redo sharing - have you set to ON "ALLOW FILE & PRINTER SHARING" which a new Windows install may have set to OFF?

    Can't stand it - Revert Windows to previous Build - just do so before any scheduled task deletes Windows.old in C.  It should be a very large folder.

    REALLY can't stand it -dual boot Windows 7 with Homegroup still going strong 

    Homegroup can access OneDrive folders if given access in OneDrive.
