I can't setup homegroup on windows 10

My PC upgraded to Windows 10 Pro version 1803 yesterday during automatic updates. This morning I attempted to view files in my network. Home Group is no longer available in this newest update. It seems in their wisdom they decided it was not needed and provided other solutions to share files/directories. I following the instructions to share files/directories via Windows Explorer. Guess what? You can not share directories only individual files at one time. This is not acceptable. After much trial and error I found a work around. As long as you have the name of the PC in your network you can enter "\PCNAME" and it should give you access. Bring back Home Group to the Windows operating system!

2018-08-05T05:55:19+00:00 No surprise there. Microsoft did advertise for months that HomeGroup was being retired. To me, it never worked anyways. Good riddance.
Was working fine for me. Suddenly gone. BS.

Glad I was able to help. Step 2 was my conservative approach (allow read only first before allowing full control second) so it can be skipped and you can go directly from step 1 to step 7. When I looked at my post, I see that I dropped my original steps 4-6 in what I posted as these were more "observational" steps showing what I saw and not what I did.

2018-08-03T17:19:09+00:00 Thank you for this. I just upgraded to 1803 and the microsoft document on the changes with homegroup now gone with the guidelines on how to connect did not work for me. I then came across this community thread and your response and applied 1 and then 7. I would add that for me I had to click on "share" after highlighting HomeUsers and let it run in order for the folder to show up on the other computers. I am not a tech type just know enough to keep my computer going so this may be evident to most already. Your message has saved me a lot of time. Thank you for sharing.

2018-07-30T17:49:10+00:00 Homegroup always worked for me - it was easy to set up and the transfer of files was always successful even if it was a bit slow sometimes. Now I have to use memory sticks and SD cards and external hdd's to transfer my files. It doesn't surprise me that Microsoft got rid of something else that was convenient and easy to use. They always know best even when they don't.
