Windows File Explorer Not Showing Correct Folder Size If Folder Named 'Applications'

Since installing the 1803 update, Windows File Explorer doesn't display the correct folder size if the folder is named 'Applications'.

There seems to be a bug that if the folder name is 6 characters or more and starts with 'Appli', the folder size shows significantly less than it actually is.  For example if the folder is named 'Apps' or 'Appli', it will display the size correctly.  If however it is named 'Applications' or 'Applix' or 'Appliy', then it won't display correctly.

The Feedback app doesn't work on my computer due to having telemetry settings set to 'Basic', therefore I am reporting the bug here instead.

Windows 10 Pro X64 (17134.1, 1803)

    This issue was resolved long ago.  Not sure why people are still posting about this but most likely because they don't have latest version of Windows 10?

    It doesn't help to be "resolved" long ago if it isn't released to mainstream users. I have version 1809 (build 17763.529) and all cumulative updates installed as of today. Problem still exists.

    I wouldn't consider insider releases or brand new mainstream releases to be a "long ago" fix if the majority can't use it without switching to "beta tester" status.

    I have a slightly older version (build 1809 17763.503 and it is working on mine?  It could have something to do with the windows driver's or the motherboard firmware, I updated both at the time of the problem so was never sure what fixed it?

    it was never resolved, people are posting about it because there is still the issue, (until version 1903)

    how do you know? you seems to be assuming its fixed. just because 1 or 2 folders you tested are calculating the correct size, doesnt mean its fixed

    i know this wasnt fixed in version 1809 because ive got a harddrive that is 1tb big and shows 4tb of files and folders (yes impossible) i did a clean install with 1803 and 1809, and it still showed the incorrect value, i tested on my other computers with 1809 and all 3 showed the wrong numbers. i did a clean install of windows 7 and it worked correct. microsoft only just released to the public 1903, i installed that and it finally works, so i dont know how you did your testing, but i know for a fact it wasnt fixed in 1809, also there feedback hub had a report from microsoft saying it will be fixed in 1903

    this problem should now be fixed when you update to 1903, its a slow rollout though

    I think the big question I have now is why couldn't the fix have been patched as a cumulative update for the 1803 and 1809 versions. Why is the only fix to upgrade to a whole new release.

    This is a bug fix, not a feature update, so they should have made attempts to patch all versions of Windows where it is present.

    they also fix bugs in the feature updates, but yes i agree, i dont understand why wait so long, maybe the only way to fix it safely was to do they way they are doing it. im just glad its fixed now.
