Windows File Explorer Not Showing Correct Folder Size If Folder Named 'Applications'

The only thing they will do is charge money for broken windows 10.

Even in Windows 7 I never had such an issue!

It is a shame of a mulit billion $ company that they don't fix that bug within one year.

I will write some article about this in a newspaper, so people can see what M$ is (not) doing...

It's a shame but no shame. Probably only way to pressure them is to bring this topic to the public. This is a such a basic feature...

One year passed and we are counting. I am planning to go to 1903 but with the history, I am not confident that it will solve this issue 100%

You can run a PowerShell script to find the long path name.

Otherwise, use an application (eg. Tree Size) to generate a report

I'm not 100% sure, but there appears to be a pattern if a file exceeds the 260 character full path limit, Windows File Explorer stops counting and returns only what it has counted so far.

In the past, I have hunted down files buried deep in an extended file structure, and renamed files with very long file names to shorter file names and the problem went away.   The problem is that there is nothing that indicates the order that Windows File Explorer is going through the files when adding things up, so you can't tell where it left off when the process that does the counting crashes.  Users cann't find the file names that are too long.

Five things that would be helpful would be:

1)     

1. If Microsoft increased the size of the fields in the Windows Explorer module that does the counting to accomodate longer full path files names.   (So it does not crash and return a smaller erroneous count).
2. Put in an error message with the full path of the file name when it comes across a file with a full path that exceeds the file length limits causing it to stop counting.   (Gives a user a hint as to where to start looking to shorten a file path/name)
3. Show a message in the properties that it stopped counting at a particular file name (provide full path) instead of showing inaccurate data.
4. Add a feature in Windows Explorer Extended Search that allowed you to search for all file names with full path file names that were above a certain number of characters.   I would like to be able to go through and shorten everything to under 230 in case I move the entire root folder to another drive and put it in a folder that causes a longer pathname.  To do that, I need a way to find everything that has over a 230 character full file pathname.
5. Have a message appear if you are moving files or folders that are higher in a folder structure down into a folder that is lower in a folder structure if the full path that was short enough before now becomes too long.   I am okay having to go in to shorten files that have full paths that are too long.   I have over 80,000 files in over 2,500 folders. I need a way to find the handful of files that have path and file names that are too long.

This issue was resolved long ago.  Not sure why people are still posting about this but most likely because they don't have latest version of Windows 10?

It doesn't help to be "resolved" long ago if it isn't released to mainstream users. I have version 1809 (build 17763.529) and all cumulative updates installed as of today. Problem still exists.

I wouldn't consider insider releases or brand new mainstream releases to be a "long ago" fix if the majority can't use it without switching to "beta tester" status.

I ran the script ages ago (was it from Win10forums?) that uninstalls all built in win10 apps except "store"

As a result I can no longer open the Feedback Hub, it runs as a proprietary app.

It's a small price to pay for being permanently rid of Photos, TV and Movies, Groove, all their BS apps that only exist to stimulate your addiction centers and grab your cash in a moment of weakness. 

True, I had to install Youcam because Camera was gone, VLC to cover movies and music.

It's not a perfect solution but it's (as I said) a small price to pay.

I'd be willing to give MS a few bucks for this OS, but I'll bet that within a few years they'll start to realize that having access to every move we make and all our "personal data" wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and that all they accomplished was to give away a free OS while receiving virtually nothing of value in return.

Someone mentioned that 1903 fixed the folder size issue, and I also read that 1903 allows the uninstall of Movies&TV and a few other apps. We'll see :)
