"We can't open this file right now.  Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again."

These files were on my windows 8 laptop, but it died so I put everything in OneDrive and now I can't access my files!!!!  Help!!!!  My new laptop is running on windows 10.

How do I fix this?  I need these files ASAP!!!!

I found that if you right click on the OneDrive icon (two white clouds) in the system tray (where your time shows) and then choose "Quit OneDrive" and then start it again from the Start Menu, it would let me access my files that previously gave the "We can't open this file right now.  Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again" error.

Thank you for suggesting this.  It worked fine this way, which tells me there's another glitch in One Drive.  It's been more work than it's worth lately.

    Hi All,

I have exactly the same problem as the one stated in the title of this thread. This is what helped me.

    1. Go to this website: https://www.windowscentral.com/9-tips-help-you-fix-onedrive-sync-problems-windows-10
    2. Look at option #1. This solved my problem.
    3. Restart the OneDrive sync client app on your PC

If OneDrive isn't syncing any file or folder, the first thing you want to try is to reset the desktop sync client app.

    1. On the notification area, right-click the OneDrive (cloud) icon. (If you don't see the icon, click the Show hidden icons up arrow button on the far-left side of the notification area.)
    2. Click the Exit option.
    3. On the dialog box prompt click the Close OneDrive button.
    4. Open the Start menu, do a search for OneDrive, and open the desktop app. (This will open the OneDrive folder indicating that the app is running.)

I searched my computer for OneDrive, it found it, I double clicked it, and it opened and worked fine.
