I keep getting this error message when I try to recover my files from OneDrive.

"We can't open this file right now.  Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again."

These files were on my windows 8 laptop, but it died so I put everything in OneDrive and now I can't access my files!!!!  Help!!!!  My new laptop is running on windows 10.

How do I fix this?  I need these files ASAP!!!!

I found that if you right click on the OneDrive icon (two white clouds) in the system tray (where your time shows) and then choose "Quit OneDrive" and then start it again from the Start Menu, it would let me access my files that previously gave the "We can't open this file right now.  Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again" error.

    I do not seem to have the exit option. Yet this is the only solution I can find online.

    Thanks, this got me started! It turns out the OneDrive app itself was no longer running on my computer (the cloud icons weren't showing in my SysTray.

    I right-clicked my toolbar to open "Task Manager," clicked on "StartUp," and, sure enough, OneDrive was marked "Disabled." I right-clicked it to mark "Enabled," then closed Task Manager. The cloud icons reappeared in my SysTray, and I was able to double-click and open the files in OneDrive from Windows Explorer again.

    Did you try my suggestion? 

    I went to try your suggestion, and as I opened my system tray, one by one all of the icons there started to disappear. Now it's down to Adobe updates and Microsoft Upload Center :(. I was so hopeful. :) Maybe I'll try a restart of my computer and see what happens.
