I keep getting this error message when I try to recover my files from OneDrive.
"We can't open this file right now. Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again."
These files were on my windows 8 laptop, but it died so I put everything in OneDrive and now I can't access my files!!!! Help!!!! My new laptop is running on windows 10.
How do I fix this? I need these files ASAP!!!!

I found that if you right click on the OneDrive icon (two white clouds) in the system tray (where your time shows) and then choose "Quit OneDrive" and then start it again from the Start Menu, it would let me access my files that previously gave the "We can't open this file right now. Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again" error.
I agree 100%. I have had to re-install OneDrive a number of times between updates. Somethings shuts it off. No OneDrive on desktop or in taskbar.
Right now OneDrive is not working on the laptop I am using.
This helped friend. After April update, my OneDrive went completely crazy, this is the second time I've had to do that. Had Windows Fall Update version installed from scratch in my PC to fix stuff that broke between upgrading from Anniversary Update to Fall Update. Now this between Fall to April. MS you just can't get a single update within the same OS without breaking stuff. That's sad.

This is what I did on my Windows 10 PRO 64bit desktop and my Windows 10 Home Dell laptop.
Do not know if this will work for you.
Do you have OneDrive in file folder?
Open File folder, go to local disk (C:). In search box on far right put in onedrive.exe. Hit enter. Windows should start the search & you should see green bar. Wait until it is done. Look at the .jpg I attached.
You should see a list of onedrive.exe files. The small size files do not do. You should see a few Size 24.x MB. I double clicked on the first 24.x MB file. If onedrive starts to install, then you know you have the right file. If you get an error & will not install, cancel out. Double click on the next 24.x MB file. If & when onedrive starts to install, follow the proms. You should see a white onedrive cloud in your task bar on the right bottom by the speaker icon. It most likely will have a blue arrow in the cloud while updating. Wait until done.
Open file folder and check if you have green check w/circle around it. Or white cloud. The Status column has to be on.
There most likely other ways to do this, this is what I did.
