I am running Windows 10 on an HP laptop. The last couple of days OneDrive continually says "Signing In" but never gets signed in. It has been fine prior to this. What do I do to correct the problem?

Hi,

I'm Diego Rios, an Independent Advisor willing to help other Microsoft customers.

Please, clear your browsers from cache, temporary files, cookies, etc, Then verified that you place the right credentials and log in to your account. Then follow the procedures in the link below:

  1. Exit OneDrive (right click in the system tray)
  2. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager
  3. Click on "Windows Credentials" (on the right)
  4. Choose the down arrow to the right of "OneDrive Cached Credential"
  5. Choose Edit, and enter your OneDrive (Microsoft Account) Username/Password.
  6. Go to the start menu, and launch "OneDrive" again

This may restore your OneDrive without resetting your local copy.

Alternatively, simply remove the "OneDrive Cached Credential" (there is an option to do so) and let OneDrive start over. The positive side is IF you wanted to move your OneDrive to another location, you'll have the opportunity to do so during the reset. Either way, you will NOT lose your online data.

Please let me know if this helped and works.

Best Regards,

Diego R.

I had to reinstall to get One Drive signed in.  It was too much of a bother so I ignored it.  The files I have out there are not volatile and I have them backed up otherwise - so no biggie.

In the fullness of time, One Drive sign-in succeeded and hasn't given me any problems since.  Sign-in is automatic when I start up my PC.

My suspicion is that Microsoft noticed that it had this problem and fixed it, at least for my Office 365 subscription.  That gets updated regularly but there is no indication of what's been updated.  (This problem is on a Win 7 Pro system, hasn't been an issue with  a Win 8.1 system - but that system doesn't have an Office 365 subscription.)  Could be something in the way One Drive interacted with Win 7 Pro.)

I appear to have resolved the issue by choosing the "Get OneDrive Insider preview updates before release" checkbox. I am currently running version 2019 (Build 19.103.0527.0002) and am no longer experiencing problems:

Yes that is correct, but be reminded it does not necessarily resolve the issues...at least it does not on my case.

When I reboot my pc I get this with OneDrive:

It stays like this and anything I do from this point does not resolve the issue unless I uninstall OneDrive, remove Registry entries, and reinstall OneDrive.

I am just having the same issues with Shaun and despite many attempts tried nothing successful each time I start my laptop this just keep signing in endlessly...

Seriously I don't know and no idea why this keeps happening to my laptop. All the credentials were correct and no issues. Please help me out here (Built: 19.086.0502.0006).
