Microsoft is aware that some devices running the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) may hang or freeze when using certain apps, such as “Hey Cortana” or Chrome. If your device freezes when using an app, try one of the following steps to recover Windows without needing to restart: Try a Windows key sequence to wake the screen. If you have a keyboard connected, simultaneously press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B . If you’re on a tablet, simultaneously press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons, three times within 2 seconds. If Windows is responsive, a short beep will sound and the screen will blink or dim while Windows attempts to refresh the screen. If you’re using a laptop, close and open the laptop lid. Microsoft is working on a solution with the goal of including it in the next regular monthly update, currently targeted for a release date of May 8, 2018. Update (5/8/18): A solution was included in the May 8th, 2018 cumulative update (KB4103721). Windows Update will automatically download and install the solution. To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates . If your system still experiences performance problems after installing the latest updates, you may be experiencing a different issue. Microsoft just updated my windows 7 professional on my i7 game machine with 20gb ram. June 2018. Now every 3-4 seconds, whole machine hangs for 1-2 seconds, then beeps and starts working. It's driving me nuts. I removed or disabled every process that was jumping to the top of the cpu counter including steam, facebook, bluetooth etc. It reduced frequency to every 7-10 seconds, but it still happens. Doesn't microsoft test it's updates before forcing them on us. Any ideas?

this has been the standard like since the April update like take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning after the April update my DESKTOP was running so horrible freezing and locking up and not just chrome that I pulled 10tb of storage off it and thinking I had a virus I clean wiped my os and reinstalled the OS to the ssd and SSDD. it was the OS that was the issue. for me chrome is locking up and freezing the OS seems to have stopped after my latest update but again and I understand all about release channels. but since I am not on the insider ring why are these bugs hammering through especially when forums scream about them pre-release stable?

Using the Memory | % Committed Bytes in Use counter in Performance Monitor might be a better way to check for possible memory leaks. See https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/use-windows-performance-monitor-like-power-user/ Some useful information about creating Data Collecting Sets there as well. The Pool Nonpaged and Paged bytes, mentioned on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/determining-whether-a-leak-exists , don't tell me anything. They both appear permanently at 100%. Is that even normal? Using Chrome normally, pretty much alone, I can see a fairly steady rise. Could be, like, 1% every half hour. Yesterday it seemed to plateau after about four hours tho.. With Chrome open, but left idle, I can see a rise of the same amount over about ten hours. But, actually, the System left idle with virtually no apps running at all could account for that. Commited bytes, in that case, rose by about 0.5% in four hours. There was some Pagefile activity at the same time too, which I don't understand. On another note: After three days of very little trouble at all, yesterday I had a couple of bad freezes affecting several apps at once. That was also following another Windows update (KB4284835), installed the day before. So, I still have my suspicions about updates causing some issues.

A lot of people say they are having a problem with Chrome. I have no problems with Chrome but do with Edge. Streaming on Chrome no problem, streaming on Edge big problems. I guess sooner or later someone in the public will come up with a fix. Then Microsoft will tell all of us how to fix our computers.
