White bar covering top portion of Windows Explorer on Windows 10

Hi, I have 2 users that have suffered from this problem. Windows Explorer displays a white bar at the top and doesn't display correctly. A reboot solves the issue, restarting the process does not. You can interact with the area where the white bar is, it simply doesn't display correctly. Moving the window around, the white bar only shows in Windows Explorer, no other apps. Both are using HP desktops but completely different models, one is an HP ProDesk 400 G3 Mini the other a HP Z240 Tower Workstation. I uninstalled/reinstalled the latest driver for each computer from the HP website with no success. The issue is random and intermittent. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, first time posting here but since this problem was a big deal in my workplace, i wanted to share with you this fix that i've found on reddit.

I've been looking for a solution on this problem for quit a long time now and i've finally found a way to solve this issue instantly. It worked for the 2-3 PC's that had the problem in my company. Hope it will help you :

  • Right click desktop,
  • Go to Intel HD Graphics settings
  • Select Display
  • Then choose the option Scale Full Screen.
  • Make sure the option Override Application Settings has the checkbox marked.

(big thanks to marlon_shibby on https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/8imjva/windows\_10\_multi\_monitor\_maximized\_window/)

Have a great day !

    Hi,

A fix so they don't have to reboot is to swap primary monitor over to the second screen and then switch it back. This refreshes everything and temporarily fixes the issue until it happens again and you can do the same again. It saves them having to reboot every time especially if they have lots open. I am hoping Microsoft resolves this issue as i have found no permanent solution for this and I have a customers who are not happy about it at all.

Some of the machines doing this for me are Nvidia, some AMD, and some built in Intel graphics... Changing 'Nvidia settings' to default is not a solution to the problem for me. Often, I thought I had a solution found, then a week or a few weeks later the user started having the problem again.

Indeed. 'Yes' and 'yes'. I have been white-bar-free for a couple of months. Now the phenomenon has returned. With a vengeance! Afflicts Chrome (easy temporary fix, F11 twice); Explorer (only fix that I have found is reboot the pc); and Edge (I usually try to avoid using Edge!)

I really, really, really want a permanent fix. None of the suggestions made on this string - so far - have worked for me.

I was able to fix the problem you described by going to the NVIDIA settings and restoring the default settings.

    Instantly solved my problem.

I think the addition of a 2nd monitor had prompted my issue.  Now all apps and browsers are showing full screen.  Hope this helps!
