White bar covering top portion of Windows Explorer on Windows 10

Hi, I have 2 users that have suffered from this problem. Windows Explorer displays a white bar at the top and doesn't display correctly. A reboot solves the issue, restarting the process does not. You can interact with the area where the white bar is, it simply doesn't display correctly. Moving the window around, the white bar only shows in Windows Explorer, no other apps. Both are using HP desktops but completely different models, one is an HP ProDesk 400 G3 Mini the other a HP Z240 Tower Workstation. I uninstalled/reinstalled the latest driver for each computer from the HP website with no success. The issue is random and intermittent. Any suggestions?

hi guys,

i have the same problems, and right now it fixed.

this is what i do :

  1. go to NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on windows screen)
  2. go to display - change resolution
  3. change the screen resolution to any resolution(for both screen)
  4. apply and then change again into any resolution that you want.

im not sure with the problems, but when i do the step above it fixed mine.

Hello everyone, first time posting here but since this problem was a big deal in my workplace, i wanted to share with you this fix that i've found on reddit.

I've been looking for a solution on this problem for quit a long time now and i've finally found a way to solve this issue instantly. It worked for the 2-3 PC's that had the problem in my company. Hope it will help you :

  • Right click desktop,
  • Go to Intel HD Graphics settings
  • Select Display
  • Then choose the option Scale Full Screen.
  • Make sure the option Override Application Settings has the checkbox marked.

    We are still seeing the issue here. We've been through a few more steps to remedy this with our affected user. 

    Originally the 2 displays were connected to  different sources - one to th on-board graphics and one to the built in graphics. 

     - Connected both displays to onboard graphics, problem persists. 

     - Connected both displays to discrete (add-on) graphics, problem persists. 

     - We've installed all applicable windows updates, problem persists.

    By saying "problem persists" -  I mean that the computer will operate normally, and then the  display will glitch leading to a white box, and a area of the screen where the user can "click-through" the top window and be unexpectedly modifying the windows/desktop below. In earlier posts I've already described how we moved the user to a new computer, and started un-installing various software titles to narrow down the issue. I think I'm close to systematically ruling out that this is anything but a Windows 10 bug, which is exactly what others have said in this thread.

    Hi All

    Did anyone manage to resolve the issue?

    It's happening to two Users. One has a HP ProBook laptop with Samsung 27in screen. The bar occurs on top of the screen

    The other, HP Pavillion PC with two screens, left 27in screen is an AOC brand, the second screen is a Viewsonic 27in screen. It's happening on the Viewsonic screen. Some time the white bars on top, some times its on the top and bottom

    Users can't see whats in the bars so they can't close the app properly. A restart of the computer/laptop resolves the issue. But it comes back after a day or two. It happens two to three times a week

    This sounds the same as the issues my users have been experiencing but from my investigation I don't believe that the model/make of the computer or screens seem to be a factor, more just a Windows 10 issue that Microsoft are yet to address.

    When I had the problem it only affected Chrome, Edge and Windows Explorer.
