White bar covering top portion of Windows Explorer on Windows 10

Hi, I have 2 users that have suffered from this problem. Windows Explorer displays a white bar at the top and doesn't display correctly. A reboot solves the issue, restarting the process does not. You can interact with the area where the white bar is, it simply doesn't display correctly. Moving the window around, the white bar only shows in Windows Explorer, no other apps. Both are using HP desktops but completely different models, one is an HP ProDesk 400 G3 Mini the other a HP Z240 Tower Workstation. I uninstalled/reinstalled the latest driver for each computer from the HP website with no success. The issue is random and intermittent. Any suggestions?

hi guys,

i have the same problems, and right now it fixed.

this is what i do :

  1. go to NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on windows screen)
  2. go to display - change resolution
  3. change the screen resolution to any resolution(for both screen)
  4. apply and then change again into any resolution that you want.

im not sure with the problems, but when i do the step above it fixed mine.

Hello everyone, first time posting here but since this problem was a big deal in my workplace, i wanted to share with you this fix that i've found on reddit.

I've been looking for a solution on this problem for quit a long time now and i've finally found a way to solve this issue instantly. It worked for the 2-3 PC's that had the problem in my company. Hope it will help you :

  • Right click desktop,
  • Go to Intel HD Graphics settings
  • Select Display
  • Then choose the option Scale Full Screen.
  • Make sure the option Override Application Settings has the checkbox marked.

    Same problem here and have been trying to solve it on various machines for months. The odd thing is that is is only happening at one office I do work with. They are all on dual monitor setups, they all have different branded desktops and the problem comes and goes randomly. I have resorted to unintallying and reinstalling windows from complete scratch just to see the problem re-appear sometimes within days of the 'media creation tool full wipe' reinstall. When the problem first occured on a PC I thought it mught be a gfx card/driver issues so I switch graphics cards and brands (from nvidia to AMD), the problem didn't go away then it started on another workstation. This is very very frustrating, I've now spent double digit hours trying to resolve with multiple computer wipes - have even purchased an totally new PC to see the problem occur. One common denominator is most of the workstations this is happening on are using 1920x1200 resolution dual screen Dell monitors.

    This problem also seems to mess with file explorer windows - if they maximize that window it has the white out area or it is sometimes even totally white - restoring it from maximize fixes it but it goes back to white if you maximize it.

    Additionally, as some others have stated, switching the resolution on the display control panel to a lower one then back to native fixes the problem temporarily.

    This is the first I've heard of it happening on Windows 7. I've just loaded my user's laptop with Windows 7 so let's hope it doesn't start up again.

    But there is a pretty clear picture of the causes of this issue, as stated by several users previously. Multiple monitors, with either different resolutions or different physical sizes, only the primary monitor is affected, it only affects specific applications (Explorer, Chrome, IE, seems like applications with custom/non-standard title bars), and changing resolution or making the application full-screen (F11) and then exiting full-screen mode will fix it temporarily. It is almost certainly an issue with Windows DPI scaling or its handling of multi-monitor setups.

    However, I would also add that I have multiple monitors on my personal computer at home with different resolutions, one is 2160p and the other is 1080p, both are 24". I have never experienced this issue on my computer at home though, which just makes this even more frustrating.

    I am currently having this issue with a bunch of computers.  What i have come to realize its mostly windows 10, dual monitor setup.  This affects only the primary monitors with internet explorer, windows explorer and adobe.   Up until last week its only been windows 10,  then i had a co-worker experience it on windows 7 in firefox.  I've tried other ways of fixing with no luck.  Hope someone can get to the bottom of this soon.
