Windows Media Player with wrong Find Album Info link

My Computer just did the latest update then all of a sudden whenever I go into Windows Media Player and go into Find Album Info the Find Album Info Cache link is musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com instead of the usual fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com, Can anyone please help me change back to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com I got a lot of Albums with the wrong information and I need fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com in order to sort everything out.

It's amazing that Microsoft hasn't fixed this. It's a bug that they seemed to have ignored. I found the fix on a different site and it's relatively simple, but you must edit the registry as follows:

  1.  Start regedit.exe

  2.  Navigate to

      "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\TunerConfig"

  3.  Look for setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER -- it should have a value of "pmpMusicMatch"

  4.  Edit the setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER, and clear the value so you have a blank value

  5.  Save / exit regedit.exe

  6.  Restart Windows Media Player, you should be restored back to   fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

    EOP:  Thanks for the detailed instructions, but unfortunately still no go for me.

    The web address you provided was obviously still not in the form of a live link that takes me directly to the page, but I copied the address and pasted it into a new browser tab.  I was then taken to a web page that is very similar to the one you display in your Step 2, except in English of course. But, it doesn't show a message box asking me if I want to "Open Comments Center?" The only option I'm given is to install something called "Feedback Hub", and when I do that, I get an app that gives me a way to provide feedback to Microsoft, but doesn't give me any way to get to the page where I can see your suggestion and vote on it.

    Maybe that's because it's a different process for USA users than for wherever you are, which I've deduced is a Spanish-speaking location.  Or, maybe it's because I don't have, and don't want, a Microsoft Store account. (I do obviously have an account to participate in these forums, but I'm pretty sure that's a different account.)

    My only suggestion at this point would be for you to provide us with the address of the page you displayed in Step 2 above (The "Usas Windows 10?" page, with a web address starting with "insider.windows.com"), and perhaps I'll be able to get to your suggestion page if I go there.

    Did all as above. Never restored to the fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com. Keeps going back to the MusicMatch junk. Even manually changed to the fai.music. Still back to MusicMatch.

    An additional problem seems to be that http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com is no longer a working website. Unlike you, retireeinnnh, I can still make the registry edit described in Gene 918's solution, but for the past 6 months or so, when I then do the "Find album info" process in Windows Media Player 12, I get a notification of ""Can't reach this page. Make sure the web address of http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com is correct." And, when I attempt to go to that web address in a browser, I get a "Server Not Found. We can’t connect to the server at fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com." notification. http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

    At least that's the case for me, as I'm still using Windows 10 Version 1803, which I believe is a.k.a. April 2018 Creator's Update. I've been resisting updating to newer versions 1809 or 1903, for other well-known reasons. I suppose it's possible that Microsoft might have fixed this, or provided a different database site that restores the "Find album info" function, in the newer versions ..... though I doubt it. Can anyone using Versions 1809 or 1903 chime in and report on this?

    And, is there anyone out there who is experiencing that http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com does still work for them?
