Media Player web address for album info changed in recent Windows 10 upgrade

After a recent major upgrade for Windows 10, my Windows Media Player is trying to find Album information from a new website that does not work.  The old web address was (fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com) and new web address it is using is (musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com) which is not a valid address.  How do I change the web address used for album metadata back to correct address?  Searched old message boards with no luck.

Found a solution that worked for me:

  1. Start regedit.exe
  2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\TunerConfig"
  3. Look for setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER -- it should have a value "pmpMusicMatch"
  4. Edit the setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER, and clear the value so you have a blank value
  5. Save / exit regedit.exe
  6. Restart Windows Media Player, you should be restored back to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

What an unnecessary pain in the proverbial.

Update: this DOES NOT WORK any more.

Microsoft appear to have strangled this option off entirely. We are now stuck with the much lesser offering that is "musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com".

Microsoft: thanks for nothing.

    Doing a reinstall of Windows 10, due to other problems, the problem has magically been solved, the database is simply musicmatch-ssl .... now I don't know, what could be different between the "dirty" operating system that is in use for a long time and a clean one. It certainly does not seem absolutely logical, that you have to format the hard disk, to get a full WMP functionality ...

    Lol. that happened to me except I transfered music to my VM and when I opened WMP it showed a Chris Cornell Song in Audioslave Because the Contributing Artist was Audioslave. But I fixed it by changing the Contributing Artist to Chris Cornell

    The whole problem is the musicmatch.

    The previosu database was better and allowed to adjust the found metadata, musicmatch is half empty ****, that does not.

    The answer is wrong.  The solution does not work for the latest version of Windows.  I don't want to reinstall Windows to get this to work.  It worked originally.  Pointing to xboxlive.com is the problem.  

    It doesn't work for thousands of people experiencing the problem.  This has been going on for several years now.  Why can't Microsoft fix this?  They can't be this inept.
