Media Player web address for album info changed in recent Windows 10 upgrade

After a recent major upgrade for Windows 10, my Windows Media Player is trying to find Album information from a new website that does not work.  The old web address was (fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com) and new web address it is using is (musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com) which is not a valid address.  How do I change the web address used for album metadata back to correct address?  Searched old message boards with no luck.

Found a solution that worked for me:

  1. Start regedit.exe
  2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\TunerConfig"
  3. Look for setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER -- it should have a value "pmpMusicMatch"
  4. Edit the setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER, and clear the value so you have a blank value
  5. Save / exit regedit.exe
  6. Restart Windows Media Player, you should be restored back to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

What an unnecessary pain in the proverbial.

Update: this DOES NOT WORK any more.

Microsoft appear to have strangled this option off entirely. We are now stuck with the much lesser offering that is "musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com".

Microsoft: thanks for nothing.

    Do you have Windows 10 ?, if so ... the link should open, I still have doubts about why some people can not open it having it ...

    When I try to open your link, I get this message in the Feedback Hub (translated from Dutch):

    Your account does not have access to this feedback

    I'm guessing that this is related to the language you posted your feedback in. For example, the Feedback Hub app on my system is in Dutch, and I can only access Dutch and English feedback.

    So if you repost your feedback in English, it should be accessible to more users. You can select the language at the start of the 'add new feedback' process.

    I hate Microsoft so much, but they obviously don't care. This is sort of related to Media Player, today my computer updated to the latest version of Windows 10, wasted my whole day while it did it. But, SURPRISE SURPRISE, settings changed AGAIN!!!! My media player diverted back to default settings, so I had to adjust all the display options, artwork, columns, etc. YET AGAIN to how I want them.

    I also had to fix my display settings, personalised colours, etc. WE ARE SO **** SICK OF YOU DOING THIS TO US MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!

    Find album info is broken in Win7 too; I tried the links but got the same errors others got. The link for win7 just shows a single post in a forum; I didn't see a link to vote.

    I'm just about ready to move back to linux....
