Media Player web address for album info changed in recent Windows 10 upgrade

After a recent major upgrade for Windows 10, my Windows Media Player is trying to find Album information from a new website that does not work.  The old web address was (fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com) and new web address it is using is (musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com) which is not a valid address.  How do I change the web address used for album metadata back to correct address?  Searched old message boards with no luck.

Found a solution that worked for me:

  1. Start regedit.exe
  2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\TunerConfig"
  3. Look for setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER -- it should have a value "pmpMusicMatch"
  4. Edit the setting PREFERREDMETADATAPROVIDER, and clear the value so you have a blank value
  5. Save / exit regedit.exe
  6. Restart Windows Media Player, you should be restored back to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com

What an unnecessary pain in the proverbial.

Update: this DOES NOT WORK any more.

Microsoft appear to have strangled this option off entirely. We are now stuck with the much lesser offering that is "musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com".

Microsoft: thanks for nothing.

    I'll be a SOAB.  It worked.

    So why didn't Microsoft fix this months ago?!  Your average Joe wouldn't even know how to implement this, but good job Tom.

    I have contacted live support in regard of this.

    The only thing they did was to manually take control of my computer and restored previous build removing the 1803 update. As of now they don't seem to be intrested in fixing the problem. I think the reason might be that FAI server has stopped being updated and the old 500 albums and no more bug is omnipresent.

    I've got the same problem and it's really pissing me off. This new site doesn't give you the choice of scrolling through results to find a match either, it just offers you 1 or 2.

    Also, Media Player is now forgetting changes I make to album titles, song titles, genre, etc. When I open it up after making any changes the day before, it's gone back to what was there before. I have all the correct crap ticked and unticked, as I spent weeks years ago getting my music to how I wanted it.

    Microsoft is pathetic, all you do is change things around and this totally **** up something that worked fine in the first place and that people were happy with.

    I've got the same issue, plus many (not all) apps crash shortly after opening. Mail and Calendar, Photos, Calculator, etc. all start to open, then crash/close.  Thought it was something else I changed, but I'm seeing indications that others are having similar problems. I'm not savvy enough to go and change stuff without the step by step fixes, so will have to sit tight and hope there is another MS update that fixes these problems.
