Hi Charlie,
I have been having exactly the same problem as Mike for the last couple of days, again following a recent Windows 10 update: my album info connection tries to reach http://musicmatch-ssl.xboxlive.com instead of the URLs it used to attempt such as http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com.
I have looked at my hosts file and all I have is this:
Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
space.
lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
For example:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
In other words, the default file content with all lines commented out and no sign of the WMP search address. As Mike says, it seems that all that's needed is the ability to change the search address in WMP somehow - the fai.music... address returns a valid
webpage if you type it into a browser, whereas the musicmatch-ssl... one doesn't. I cannot find where this address is configured though and have even searched the registry to try and find that string, with no success.
Any further suggestions would be gratefully received, as it seems that this is a different issue to the one already on many forums that is fixed by editing the hosts file.
Rich.
