The newest build of System Mechanic - version 18.02.486 -- released in mid-October 2018 finally puts an end to this most irritating problem.
It appears to be safe to use System Mechanic again.
Program or background process popup keeps appearing

For days I've been getting this popup window on my Windows 10 Build 1803 computer:
"The program or a background process quit unexpectedly. Would you like to send information to a developer?"
It occurs intermittently, often every 5-10 minutes, and is EXTREMELY annoying. When I click on it, it disappears with no results but keeps reappearing. I cannot figure out what program is causing this as all programs I use are accounted for. The machine has been scanned several times and there is no sign of virus or malware. There have been no new programs installed and Windows and all drivers are current. It's a total loss to me what this is.
Anyone have any idea?

After reinstalling SM, the message reappeared, again and again and again. Uninstalling SM once more killed off the message.
It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that System Mechanic -- perhaps combined with some other software or perhaps a registry entry on this particular computer -- is generating the message. Just because the message doesn't appear on every computer with SM 18 installed does not mean that SM isn't the culprit (although as noted earlier, it could be in combination with some other factor on the affected computers).
Thanks for the additional info... Yes, I would come to the same conclusion. Rather Tha Uninstaller SM, I'm going to start by removing IOLO's Privacy Guardian, see if that resolves the matter, then remove SM 18 (and notify IOLO support). Thanks again!

2018-09-12T14:01:34+00:00 I'm having the same issue and it is linked to "iolo's System Mechanic" . I don't want to uninstall because it cost me an arm and a leg. I just ignore it.....
How do you know it is linked to System Mechanic? What version of SM are you running? I have had SM on this laptop, and 2 other PCs in the house, but have never encountered this message till now, and only on the laptop.

2018-09-12T12:49:11+00:00 Running system file checker in my regular account with all services on does not show any issues. I tried running it in safe mode, during a clean boot, and under a different login account and sfc scan will not run. The message I get on the PowerShell admin is "Windows resource protection could not start the repair service."
So I'm back where I started, a nonsense annoying popup.
FYI: THis is a picture of what the popup looks like. Might help someone solve this.
Experiencing the very same thing... ran the recommended actions, but still seeing the message.
